DAO For Concealed Carry

I carry a Beretta 92D Centurion as a duty pistol. This weapon is agency issued and a joy to shoot. During qualifications with it I fired over 1200 rounds in a variety of scenarios and found it to be a wonderfull pistol. I really prefer a consistent trigger pull from shot to shot and all my duty and carry pistols are single action or DAO. I had no problems shooting a magazine dry quickly. I have used a 92D in some local practical competitions and do well.

The Beretta 92D compact might work for you but I admit it is big. The Kahrs do not work for me as the trigger comes back in such a way as to allow my trigger finger to hit my hand with a two hand grip. This reduces my ability to shoot it well.

My current off duty carry weapons are a S&W Model 38 "J" frame and a GLOCK 26.

It's NOT a 9mm....

but have you thought about a Para-Ord LDA???

Several sizes, all metal. The trigger pull is unbelievable when you try one. Just an option.

The Para-Ordnance LDA has an unbelievable trigger, but they may still have a few bugs to work out of their new C6.45 LDA model though. They do make a full size 9mm, but I'm not so sure about compacts.

Glocks have a smooth DAO type of trigger, but like the Para, they aren't true DAOs, which permit second strike if the primer doesn't ignite on the first trigger pull.

I also perfer the kahr series, I pocket carry a MK-9 with the standard trigger and although its a very nice DAO pull the elite 98 trigger is even nicer, a few lbs lighter and very, very smooth.

Definitely look at the Kahr K9 and MK9. I recommend the Stainless Elite 98 versions -- they've got a shorter travel to the trigger. Nice guns. Accurate and reliable. Only thing I don't like is that the bottom rear corner of the slide stop tends to be a bit sharp. A couple minutes with 600 grit sand paper will round that off a bit.

Tim,

For a long time I had the same objective. The simplicity of DAO appealed to me and the "feel of steel" has always been my preference. The pistol that lured me away from that thinking was the HK P7M8. Using the squeeze cocker you get the advantages of DAO with a single action trigger. You also get the feel of a solid steel frame, HK reliability and excellent accuracy.

You owe it to yourself to shoot a P7 before you buy.

Okay, guys, throw in the plastic guns just to see what else is out there.

The HK that Brad mentioned is no doubt a good gun, but out of my price range.

I've been carrying my Kahr P9 Covert since October last year. It is a shortened grip version of the 9mm P9. More than 700 rounds through it now, and it's been very reliable. It weighs 16 oz. and is small enough that I can carry it on my ankle, in my pocket (holstered), or anywhere else I please. DAO, Made in the USA, elegantly simple, goes bang every time you pull the trigger. What's not to like?

A forgotten SS DAO

I carry an AMT DAO in 38 Super. It took quite a bit of work to get the trigger smooth (it is still quite heavy) but it always goes BANG and is surprisingly accurate for a gun with no sights. It is all stainless and stands up well to the Louisiana humidity and heat and swamps.

They are still available at gunshows, even some new ones. You wither love em' or you hate 'em, there doesn't seem to be a middle ground.
