you got me to try a Mateba .357...

and since that was so nice, I had to have one... and spent money...

NOW, I went and ordered a .44 Mateba... and it's all your fault... cost me another load of cash... oh well..

since you already caused me to drop over a grand, and while we're here, what should I get next? (anything but a Glock, please)

If you have a Hemi Cuda you must be doing OK. I had a 1969 Charger 500 with the 426 Hemi when I was younger. That's the one with the flat grill and the sloped rear window. I sold it for $3500 and I hear it's worth about $100,000 now. Is that right? When i was a kid we used to cut these up all the time, race them for awhile and then sell them for parts. My buddies and I must have been personally responsible for destroying two dozen MoPar muscle cars including at least six Hemis. If we had only known....

Well, since I have owned this car since I was 14 (1984) and done all the work MYSELF, I only have a little over 1/4 it's value invested, not that it matters... 'cause it is NOT for sale...

Charger 500's (ESPECIALLY with Hemi's) are rare indeed... though 100k, is a bit high, unless it's in pristine ORIGIANL condition...

in the last few years, the value of restored muscle cars is down... but 40 to 50k ain't unreasonable for a Charger 500 on that vintage...

the 'Cuda was worth about 120k at one time, and is now more like 50 TO 60K... but I'm at about 12k invested... (and TONS of blood, Sweat, and tears...)

Asking me...

...for rational gun purchase advice is like expecting to get good pharmaceutical investment tips from a crack addict.

My gunsmith dropped by with a Chiang Kai Shek Mauser last night with a bore that looked like a mine shaft in coal country.

He said "Want it? $55?"

I said "Duuhh... Hokay!" :D

So he put it on my tab. Do you understand this? I have an open tab with my gunsmith!

Hello. My name is Tamara, and I'm a gunoholic. ;) :D

That was half joking, asking you for advice... but ONLY half joking... you see, the Mateba had been on my mind for a little while, and your glowing review made me have to have one...

and hasving one made me have to have 2...

I too am a Gun Junkie... iffen it's weird, I need it... As shown by my penchant for Dan Wessons over Smith & Wessons... my love of oddball calibers over common ones... My love of Mopars and BSA and Triumph motorcycles... (who in their RIGHT mind wants weird stuff like that!) and all those weird things...

Edited for mis-spellings... at least the ones I caught!

You "enabler", you.

Fantastic. Now you've got me wanting to track down a .44 Magnum Mateba. Lotta help you are. ;) :D

My .44 will be in tomorrow... want a range report?

I think you want a range report... I'm positive you do... maybe I'll go blow a hundred rounds through it at lunch, just to let you know how it shoots...

you feel the need to order yourself one... let yourself go... it's ONLY 1 more gun... give in to the urge...

Seriously... I think I'll shoot it at lunch... want a range report?

To combat gunaholism I tried to hide the combination to my safes. It didn't work. I tried to sell off my collection but just used the money for ammo and skul.

Clearly I'm trapped in the cycle of deviance. Nothing but a large government grant will cure me!:D

Tams, you ARE an enabler!

Your last got me to thinking again about getting a Broomhandle Mauser. Condition unimportant as long as it shoots. That's JUST what it would take to get me into Cowboy Action Shooting, I promise!

I've never seen (photos of) anyone rigged out in my projected costume-- Flat campaign-type hat with goggles on it, khaki shirt, high laced boots, and a C-96 Mauser. I could DO it.:p

Whoops! This IS the Revolver forum, isn't it? My bad. Gotta stick with wheel guns and, uh, old muscle cars, huh?

Best,
Johnny

Cowboy Action Shooting with a broomhandle Mauser? Interesting.

Now I'm thinking about getting a Mateba, damn you all. ;)

Hi there, sorry for barging in but since it appears this thread is bringing other Mateba owners out of the woodwork:

I'm still trying to determine whether my new one is defective and I should send it back or not. Specifically because of the action locking up / difficulty of re-engaging the "desmo" to the "distributor" when reattaching the slide to the frame (basic cleaning procedure).

More info here.

Surely I can't be the only one here that has cleaned a Mateba?;)

"Cowboy Action Shooting with a broomhandle Mauser? Interesting. "

Hey--Why not? I'm pretty sure it meets the design/date requirements. And, while I'm not personally interested in a Mateba, for a backup, I'd really like to locate an affordable Webley-Fosbery automatic revolver!:p

I already own an old, very looong hammer double shotgun, but I'd prefer a pump gun to go with my avant-garde frontier style. A '97 Winchester would certainly do, but an 1895 ((or was the earlier pump an 1896?) would be better.

Oh, yeah - - Maybe a Colt-Burgess .44-40, too. I'm beginning to see how some of the CAS participants get 'WAY invested in such competition.

Best,
Johnny

Tamara, I understand this as I also have a tab with my gunsmith,

above the coffee pot and cookies in the "meeting" room the sign says "acceptance is the key"

So see we are ok.....

:D

So, the "tab with your gunsmith" isn't only me... good... I thought I had a problem for a minute or two... but you prove I am not alone...

Hi there Hemi,

Congrats on your 2'nd Mateba!

(and your Hemi, but that would be another thread. So what is your daily driver, a sedate Z06 like me?:))

So, have you had a chance to either clean or replace the spring on your "old" .357 version yet? If so how did the re-assembly go?

And how many rounds through yours so far, by caliber?

Note to self: Mateba owners respond best when prodded directly
;) ;)

Your not the Only Ones with tabs at your gunsmith, I am worse..... he has a copy of my Wish List too ;)

now if he would only part with that minty looking SP1 with the three prong flash hider and LOW serial number.

Well, only about 300 rounds through the 357 Mateba... it hasn't been apart yet...

As for my daily driver is a '95 Saturn SL! for work (hey, it gets 33 MPG... and cost me 800 bucks, with a killer sound system in it!) or a '96 Dodge Ram 4X4, lift (minor) and 33's... set up for off-road...

my Weekend daily driver is an '83 Jeep CJ-7 Laredo, again, mild lift, 31's, and set up for off-roading...

then there's the '86 yamaha XT-600 Dualsport (off roading again!)

and just traded off my Ducatti for a VRSCA Harley... (V-Rod)

I been collecting and playing with cars, bikes, airplanes, and guns for so long, I have a hard time keeping track of them all...

I am not REALLY looking foreward to dis-assembling EITHER Mateba... (my .44 is in my grubby little paws already this am)

So, uh...

About that .44 Mateba range report?

Don't just stand there, go shoot the thing and tell us how badly we want one just like it. ;) :p

2 hours 'till Lunch... BELIEVE ME< I wanna just step outside my office and let fly with a few cylinders full... and I am in a rural place... but I got warned already this spring for dispatching woodchucks with a .357 out the back door... (noise ordinance)

2 more hours... then an hour to shoot, and I'll be on early this afternoon... to post...

but I CAN say this now... the .44 feels as good as the .357... and the fit and finish are as good... it feels like a quality piece... and if it shoots HALF as well, I can say this... YOU GOTTA GET ONE!
