Shame on The Brady Campaign to Prevent Handgun Violence and the Million Mom March!
It's bad enough that there are 10 people who are gone from their families, but does the Brady campaign have to jump in with it's shrill sound-bites, lies and deceit yet again?
The Brady Campaign is lumping this tragedy with other shootings we have seen the media sensationalize recently, claiming the tragic event in Minnesota is somehow related, all at once, to; the expiration of the ineffective "assault weapons" ban; limited resources to investigate gun sellers; laws protecting your privacy after legally purchasing a firearm and a pending bill to prevent frivolous lawsuits against gun makers.
The problem is, that's wrong.
What's worse, is the Brady Campaign and Million Mom March know that this is wrong. But distorting the truth to get on the 6 o'clock news is old-hat for these folks.
The troubled teen who killed 10 people didn't use an "assault weapon". That pretty much rules out their first connection. Nor did he obtain any of the weapons from a licensed gun dealer, so that link can be swept away. Since he didn't buy his guns, the records issue dissolves too. Sue the gun maker for allowing this kid's grandfather to have a gun because of the actions of a mentally ill loner with a history of potential threats? Get real!
There is one point that this event shares with another recent event. This troubled teen obtained his firearms from a police officer. In Georgia, a man overpowered a smaller female deputy and uses a police gun to kill four people. In Minnesota a troubled teen kills his police officer grandfather and takes his guns. How is this a "national problem"? Are they asking us to disarm the police? Of course not, that would be silly.
They are complaining about a "culture of death", meaning firearms, of course, not violent rap music, movies or video games. Just firearms. All firearms.
But it the Brady Campaign and the Million Moms who are standing in the blood of innocents, crying about the blood they have laid at their own feet.
Sarah Brady complains, "When will the government do something to help stop the bloodshed?".
The problem is, local, state and the federal governments have listened to Ms. Brady, et al and already done too much. Too much damage. Across the country there are laws that carve out "victim zones" at which we have seen tragic shootings because the killers know that people are defenseless there. Schools, churches and courthouses are designated "gun free" zones. Where better for a killer to strike at his ex-wife? Or an angry man to go after his fellow worshippers? Or a student to take revenge for his anger? How many more bodies does The Brady Bunch need to see before they realize that after 35 years of "gun control" things have gone from bad to worse?
Over 80 percent of our states now allow citizens to legally carry personal firearms for protection. The rules are stringent, the costs are considerable and for those who think it necessary, it's worth it. In Texas, Mark Wilson had a permit to carry his handgun and he gave his life trying to stop a killer at the courthouse. He may have saved many, but we know he saved at least one life, that of the killer's son.
And wasn't that Mrs. Brady's slogan a few years ago? "If it saves just one life."
Think about it.
