Dan Wesson caution........

mine was solved by my local builder buddy making me comp / nuts for the barrel... seen here, on my previously "stuck" 44 magnum ( my 357 super mag wears the same type comp nut

they make a huge difference ( the 44 is a cream puff to shoot, even with pretty hot loads, with the comp / nut )... even the edges of the port are angled away from the shooter, so they aren't so loud...

trouble with mass marketing, is while each is very close ( I've never tried to interchange them... one stainless, one blued, & 357 & 44 bore ), he fits each one to the gun, you want to end up with the port perfectly upright, with the barrel / cylinder gap at the right measurement... like fitting a rifle barrel to get the correct headspace...

I guess I didn't think about the shims... a few shim washers with each comp-nut would help standardize the comp-nut... I wonder how many people would be interested in these, if I had a bunch made up ??? if it would be worth doing ???

Might be stepping on EWKarms toes a bit but asking at danwessonforum might get enough of a reply to atleast have your buddy think it over. To me the shims might be the hardest part to make up. We could learn to vari the cylinder gap a couple TH's to get spot on with the comp so there could be a little wiggle room. I tend to hunt with a 1 to 2 ths gap buy don't really care if its 6th's ether. My old hunting loads for the 357 where 170gr at 1450fps not quick to recover when stepped up a bit . And my 44 hunting load is a 240gr at 1500fps and could stand to be calmed down a bit too with a comp.

I have found that if you have a stuck DW barrel, go out with 3 or 4 boxes of the hottest loads you can find and shoot them really quick. I mean as fast as you can load and pull the trigger.

Then, while wearing gloves, use your tool to loosen the barrel if it has not already done so.

The heat makes everything expand and break the barrel free and then you can easily turn it.

Soak in kroil for a few days first helps a bunch.
