ETA...videos contain language some may dislike

A father having issues with what his daughter posted on facebook shoots her laptop as punishment. In the 8 min video he reads the post by his daughter, rebuts her claims, and as punishment shoots her laptop 8 times.

For the most part comments on msn and his you tube posting are in favor of his style of punishment(I have not read them all).

I would like to know what y'all think:

Is this over the top?
Is this a responsible use of a firearem?
What negatives/positives do you think his form type of punishment pose(for overall gun owners, not the daughter)?

Over the top? Yes
Responsible use of a firearm? No. He was shooting onto the ground but he was shooting with clear view of vehicles and what looked like a house.
Something I'll do when I have Children? Hell yes.

The only thing I fault him for is where he did the shooting, and possibly for posting it to the Internet, I'm not to sure about it. Taking away and destroying a Damn Kid's toys is good parenting, public humiliation less so, but at least he has style.

Way over.
Incredibly irresponsible in multiple ways. He may be out in the country where this isn't illegal, but Nancy, Diane and other left-wing'ers will find a way to add additional regulations to everyone because of this DA's desire for drama.

This video that will be used by 'anti' groups to support otherwise erroneous claims: Anti gun, Anti redneck, Anti parental rights, and others , probably a kid's union :), child protective services and who knows who else.

I have to wonder what he'd do if she had a minor fender bender, dated the wrong guy, or otherwise hacked him off.

Praise in public, correct / discipline in private. If nothing else, this will come back to haunt him in the years to come.

Sounds like his daughter may have had a point or two...

We are all ambassadors of the shooting sports. He was a bad one.

BitterTait...I also thought it was a bit "childish" to post it on the internet... As far as shooting near the vehicles, I am not sure, are there not laws regarding the distance from a public road when you can fire a gun?(am a city guy and thought this was the case, not saying it's not safe).

From the parenting standpoint, my girl is 17, I agree with dropping the hammer(pun intended) when a child messes up, especially multiple times.

But I think TXAZ has a good point....to a point IMHO.

TXAZ...I agree that this CAN provide fodder to Diane, Nancy et al, this is one of the reasons I posted this.

"I have to wonder what he'd do if she had a minor fender bender, dated the wrong guy, or otherwise hacked him off." posted by TXAZ

Does this not support Diane and Nancy's thought process with regards to firearms?

BTW..I agree with "Praise in public, correct / discipline in private"...or, keep it in house

C0ontZer0...I hope he meant expanding:confused: and I give him a pass on the lawn, I have a black thumb and with a crapload of fertalizer and pre-emergent, weeds are still killing me!!!

sheepdog...smoke 'em if ya' got 'em...or not!!!

I once heard "Pitch a tent in public, have a circus in public." And that's what his daughter did when she posted stuff about her parents in public, repeatedly.

And I will say it doesn't do anything to promote responsible firearms ownership.

I'd bet if he had crushed the laptop with a hammer, this video would have gone nowhere. And when you think about what he really did, out in the country, shooting almost straight down into the ground... Essentially, he punched some holes in one tool with another tool. It's really not that big a deal. It's all in the perception.

As for the lawn, he probably has ten acres and he runs at least a couple of businesses out of his house. I doubt he has time in the winter to keep a well manicured lawn.

And at least some good has come of it. If you look at his facebook page, he has been collecting donations for muscular distrophy and the donations went way up after he posted this.

Exploding hollow point rounds?

This guy is like a mad stereotype, created by anti-gunners.

He didn't do anything dangerous, but he didn't do anything to help portray firearms owners in a positive light either. He taught his daughter a lesson about acting like an idiot in public, now he needs one.

"You done shot that laptop good with dem 'esplodin' hollowpoints Cletus":p

What a moroon.

@ C0untZer0 ...If my lawn looked like that - I'd be ashamed

LOL, me too. From the video it seems he told the girl to spread fertilizer and she didn't wanted to do it. Guess that's why it's looking so bad.

Back on topic, It might had been better to do the laptop shooting at a more private location, with some sort of extra protection. Not that it was needed IMHO, but to keep the anti-gun crowd from using it as an argument.

Okay, I watched the video.

This is nearly one of those cases of firearms as incidental to the real topic. But since the .45 ACP with exploding point bullets is a central character to this video and we have been discussing the safety aspects of this display of shooting prowess, it should probably stay open.

That said, let's please get on that topic and let the right/wrong judgments of what the guy did out of the discussion. If not, we'll just close the thread.

My observation based on that video, is that it is unlikely that any ricochet occurred or that any parts of the notebook were sent off in an unsafe direction. I wouldn't be willing to put any money down on it, but it seems that the rounds passed through the notebook into the ground and that the notebook kept any debris from coming back up. I could see no pieces of plastic or dirt flying around.

BUT, I don't think it's something I would have done for the mere possibility of flying debris. I also don't think it was wise to put on that performance in view of a public highway with traffic passing by, no matter how much safe distance you may think you have.

Bad judgment IMHO, regardless of the motive.

oooh come on guys, most of you would have done the same thing, i would have, plus clean her room of TV, desk top puter, land line phone etc., and all her slutty clothes, then restrict her from any contact with friends away from school for 30 days, any violation of the rules, i would pack a suitcase with some of her clothes, give her $20.00 and tell her to go find a better home. :D

Stupid people, do stupid things !!!

And a surprising lack of parental maturity.
No wonder he has and always will have, problems with his kids. As gun owners, we are all connected and he is an idiot !!!

Be Safe !!!

Idiotically unsafe. Stoopidly expensive way to "teach" a kid a lesson. Possibly illegal use of a firearm if he's within city limits.

This is poor quality parenting.

I don't really think what he did was dangerous, just a little childish.
Nobody here really knows the whole story there so it's a little hard to judge.

Exploding hollow point rounds?
Considering that his speech is a nearly continuous unedited monologue that's over 8min long, it's possible that he meant "expanding", but the words just got jumbled up in his brain. I assume he didn't do multiple takes. ;)
