Just one curiosity is that this Winchester 1895 has a low serial number, yet it has fluted sides. Early ones were supposed to have flat sides...? 
Actually, looking closer at the pic with the serial number, do I see a 3 following the 749? If so, that would make sense since the fluted sides didn't come about until 5000 or so. There may also be a number peened out before the 7 as well.
