So I'm looking at higher end .45's Specifically the...
Sig P227
HK USP 45
HK45
Sig P220
this is the order I'm currently leaning toward, but it changes a lot, and those preferences are very slight. I wondered If anyone had all of them or experience with all of them I've wanted a USP for some time but given a choice of metal vs polymer I just like the feel of metal better.
So if anyone has any input on the triggers, reliability, accuracy and durability I'd appreciate it.

I would choose the 227 personally. I also prefer an all metal gun to a polymer framed one, and Sig's are excellent guns. I have fired the 220 before which is a great pistol, and the extra capacity of the 227 makes it that much better.

I have an HK45, have fired a couple hundred rounds through a USP, have no experience with the others but I do have a Sig P226 and a P210. If you want a metal frame, that cuts your list in half. I prefer that as well, but found that I really like my HK45 despite the plastic frame and trigger. You treat it a bit differently, and don't feel obligated to keep it shiny. The HK45 trigger is a bit squishy, but it's not a long-distance range toy so I don't mind and it's not much worse than my P226 (P210 is in a totally different class). FWIW, the HK45 is what lives in my bedroom dresser drawer, with a TLR4 light/laser mounted on the rail. You might try to rent them someplace and check them all out, or at least one each of the HK and Sig.

JeffK- while I prefer a metal frame, the HK45 probably fits my hand better than any pistol I've ever held,I don't have any problem with the ergonomics of the Sigs or the USP for that matter but the HK45 (and P30 and VP series) is, to me, a step above.
and I've always had a soft spot for the USP. I imagine I'll end up with one from each company.

I happen to own all four of the pistols in the poll, although my USP 45 is a compact model. All are reliable and accurate, but if I left my house, knowing that I was going to be in a gunfight, I would be carrying the HK45.

I voted for the 227 out of the guns on your list but don't neglect the CZ97s. I think the CZ is every bit as good a choice as anything on your list and the ergonomics are probably superior for most people.

Of the list, I'd vote for the P227 for the ergonomics (which will vary from person to person). The Stoeger Cougar and EAA Witness are also worth looking into.

What no Mark 23 on the list?:p

I voted USP, I am the opposite of most guys, I love plastic guns. The while the ergos are better on the HK45, the USP is a natural pointer for me. It also has a better trigger and holds 2 extra rounds.

FWIW, I think you should add the HK45C to your list. It's an excellent handgun.

the CZ97 is intriguing I've got an IWI copy of a cz75 and I like the idea of it in a 45 but not as much s the 4 I've listed.
and Shadi Khalil other than ergonomics, which don't bother me either way why the 220 over the 227?

Your list is what I consider the A list of top tier hammer fired DA/SA pistols. All great choices!

I own a SIG P220 and HK45. Both very top favorites of mine.

SIGs typically have nice triggers out of the box but I have found my HKs to have pretty good triggers also and my HK45 in particular has a very nice SA trigger pull and the DA getting better with use. The HK45 also has a nice reset - not near as long as my HK P30LS or P220 though not as short as my PPQ. Reset does not matter that much to me personally but you asked about trigger.

The single stack P220 is very very nice in my hand buy my HK45 is perfection for me. I personally prefer the HK45 over the USP 45 having fired both and shoot the HK45 better.

As far as accuracy, these are all VERY accurate pistols as most all non subcompact SIGs and HKs are known to be. They are also well known to be reliable and durable with the P227 having a short history on that but the P227 is basically a P220 with a wider grip to take the 10 round magazines.

Here is a link to Todd Greens 50,000 round endurance test on the HK45 over 37 weeks. It will give you an idea of the stunning performance, reliability, and durability of the HK45. His HK45 went 31,522 rounds before the first bobble!!! He went over 10,000 rounds in one stretch without cleaning it.

Good luck with your choice!

If found the 227 still to thick for my hands, so I hunted up a P220. What a great little pistol, accurate, dead nuts reliable, dead sexy....just like all Sigs.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with said pistol? I have a P220 that is a pleasure to shoot and feels good in the hand but for home defence I have my FNX 45 ( I also use this gun for working part time at a LGS). It has 15+1 rounds of 45 on tap with my light installed and is ready for the bump in the night problem. While not for CC it works great open carry.

They are. The difference is that the USP 45 is a little larger and has higher capacity. USP 45 has 12rd magazines. HK 45 has 10rd magazines. The HK 45 has an exceptionally comfortable grip and it a little more contoured.

The USP 45 has a better trigger (especially with the Match trigger kit installed).

Federal ammunition has a USP 45 that went 300,000 rounds before they stopped testing on it.

Todd Green of pistol-training.com did his 50,000rd test against an HK 45 in light LEM.

Both are very solid guns.
