DA .45 colt

You would think there'd be more choices. People stay wrapped up in the "magnum" craze though.
If it were me, I'd be looking at some sorry of Smith, be it new or used. I find them easiest on the eyes and lighter for packin. To me, "standard" 45 Colt loads will solve tons of problems, so I personally don't need the strength of the Rugers, although a Redhawk would certainly not be a bad choice.

Blue train-believe me, I loves me some magnums, but yes I realize that they generally arent needed. My most used gun is a 629, but the primary load it uses is a 240 swc around 1100 fps. I have seen lesser rounds do plenty damage to game.

S&W made a few runs of their so-called Mountain Revolvers a few years ago that looked pretty good for something to carry around and I think they made them in .45 Colt, .45 ACP and .44 Magnum. Might have made .357, too.

Mountain Guns also came in .41 Magnum. I've shot (but don't own) a MG in .45 Colt, and it seems like a great vehicle for that round.

That is correct about .41Mag.

S&W has produced Mountain Guns in .357Mag, and also a scandium frame "Mountain Lite", but they are built on the smaller L frame rather than the N frame. AFAIK they have never made an N frame M27/627 Mountain Gun.

A 240-grain .44 at 1100 fps is approaching magnum territory. A .44 special would probably be under 900 fps. However, even Elmer Keith thought a factory .44 magnum load was too hot.
