CZ75B

The compact holds 13 rounds. CDNN carries preban factory mags for $70. If you order make sure to specify you want CZ mags with the curved base plate and not Czek (that's how they spell it) mage with a straight base plate. There's been some confusion about this. You can also use mags made for the P9 and Baby Eagle compact, but these require minor modification.

So many pistols, so little money.

About making the cz75 drop free...

IMHO, It is not recommended to just remove the spring or Tweek it with pliers. Cz sells a replacement mag retention spring that allows drop free operation but still keeps the gun in it's designed working order. They do address this on their FAQ's page. The site otherwise really sucks.

Pachmyer grips interfere with the mags as well.

I have seen what look to me to be the ideal grips for the pistol in the pictures that are in the recent American Rifleman article.
I think they are the grips that come with a Kadet when you buy it as a pistol and not as a conversion. They look slimmer and have real raised type checkering on them. They also do not seem to cover as much of the frame either as there is no "thumbrest" on them. They should not cost much I hope. -ddt

The newer grips that CZ has been shipping are, indeed, crap. You do have two alternatives - the older plastic grips which are available from the factory, or a set of Uncle Mike's Custom Grade Grips which is what I'd recommend. These are rubber knock-offs of the Craig Spegal combat grips and are very nice.

Thanks for the help on the spring brake. I took it off and tried the mags, but they did catch a little about half way up the well. I think they were catching on the protrusions for the grip screws. I just flattened the spring and replaced it. The mags drop smoothly now

. Appreciate the info. Shake

By the way this is what CZ-USA says about the drop-free mag issue:

Q: "Why won’t the magazine fall free from my CZ 75?"

A: The CZ 75’s and 85’s have a "Magazine break" to reduce loss of magazines, (the CZ 85 Combat has a free fall mag.). This "break" is a flat spring located in the
rear of the magazine well. It can be replaced with a "free fall spring" or modified by a gunsmith. The gun should not be used with the spring removed.

I guess I am now officially a "gunsmith" since I modified my own!

I THOUGHT that looked like glow-in-the-dark paint on my sights! Too bad after 9 years it doesn't glow anymore

and I painted over them in white just yesterday....
I bought my CZ85 a few months ago. I wasn't looking to buy a gun at the time, but as soon as I wrapped my scrawny little hands around it, it was mine. Fit like a glove. Shoots good too

and since it's an ambi 85 model, I can even shoot it left handed! but as nice as the shape of the grips is, that plastic does get slippery.
As far as mags, I've heard of some problems with aftermarket hicaps, I guess it can be easily fixed with a little tweaking. last I checked, Midway was selling some 20rd USA mags (NO, they don't fit flush) for $27 in the clearance section of their website, I bought one and had to beat and file on it to get it to work, but it's been perfect ever since. Looks kind of neat sticking out the bottom like that...

I haven't personally tackled the mag retention spring yet, all in good time....
