CZ75B ... Get One!

For some time now, and after acquiring a family of SIG-P229s, I've been wanting to obtain and shoot the CZ-75. I never really even became aware of the CZ line, until about a year ago, when I picked one up at a local gun show. The thing fit my hand so well! So after lurking around this forum and reading so many positive things about them ... I just had to get one.

Today I took it to the range and I'm super happy with the way this 75B shoots. I shot 50 rounds each of three different ammo (S&B, PMC, Winchester WB) and all performed about equal. No failures (except one, described below) and I have to declare this gun the most accurate I've ever shot. I didn't go out past 15 yards, but I kept every shot within a three-inch group. Not fantastic for many shooters, but I'm generally not that consistant with my SIGs.

My only failure was when I loaded up the 15-round mag that came with the gun. That mag is a POS. The follower is different than the 10-round mag and the feed lips wider. If I shake it, the rounds will pop out of the thing! Most likely, it's heading to a garbage bag. Anyone else have issues like this with the CZ mags?

A few more comments about the gun itself. I find the fit and finish to be very good ... as good as my SIGs ... and the slide to frame fit even better. I hate slide mounted safetys, one reason that I like the SIGs, but this the CZ frame mounted safety, giving me two carry options, is great. The safety and slide release are both perfectly positioned for my hand and function that way also.

That about covers it ... I guess. I could write more, but those of you who already have one of these great guns would be bored. For those of you that don't ... you have gotta try one. Unless you happened to get a lemon, I can't see how you could be disappointed. Except for the mag thing ... I'm sold on the CZ75B.

I only wish I had bought the first one I held at the gun show a year ago!

I suspect that somebody replaced original 15 rounder from CZ
with something like ProMag or other aftermarket brand before pistol was sold to you. Original CZ 15 rounder, and also Meggar 15 rounder are known to be trouble-free. Check markings on the
magazine body...

That thought entered my mind also.

The 15-rounder that I have has a "5" and "10" round marking/hole on one side and then a "15" round marking/hole on the other. No other markings.

Does that sound like an original CZ mag?

My original CZ 15 rounder has 3 holes on one side (5,10,15)
and one hole on the other side (15), total 4 holes, but no markings of any kind near the holes or anywhere else.
Mine came with Turkish contract CZ-75B. May be if yours was produced later, CZ added some markings you mentioned.
So far, my CZ 15 rounder appears to be somewhat different from
your description.

Original cz-75 15 rounder I got was/is absolutely reliable. I did have some trouble with Promag CZ 15 rounders.

I use both original CZ mags and Meggar mags for CZ-97B, with 100 reliability. I know Meggar supplies mags for CZ, so Meggar
is very good. Wish I could buy some CZ-75 mags by Meggar.

The CZ-75 that I want is the SA version. Sexy... Just totally sexy.
Oh, and it's not Meggar its "MECGAR". With a "C".
Pronounced MECH-GAR". ;)

The CZ 75 is on my list. But its on the bottom of the list since I like my Glock G19 so much. Besides I need a .45 and 10MM before another 9MM.

I own a SIG P220 and a CZ 85 Combat. Anyone who buys a CZ with the expectation that the fit, finish, trigger feel, or accuracy of a SIG is very likely to be disappointed.

Anyone who wants a good, accurate, reliable, durable gun with an interesting history for around $400 will be very happy. I wish I'd bought one in the 80's while they were $250. You can also get hi cap mags for them for about $40. Other add-ons like sights and holsters are a little hard to find, but are available. You can get good info on the CZ forum www.czforum.com, although you often get answers faster here.

Oris ... Thanks for the mag info. I'll be checking into replacing my 15-rounder with others that are indeed factory.

George and croyance ... Thanks for the welcome. I'm finding more info here at "The firing line" than I've found anywhere else on the net. I'm looking into getting an AK-47 and have read some helpful stuff here. Great forum!

VVG ... Thanks for your insight. I'd just ask that anyone who thinks the CZ line might have something to offer, to keep an open mind. Mine was pretty closed, having four SIGs that I felt couldn't be beat, as far as fit, function, and accuracy. With the 75B that I've obtained, I'm not dissapointed at all (except for the mag thing) and in fact, feel that in the fit and accuracy area ... my CZ beats the SIGs ... not by much ... but enough to feel (fit) and see (accuracy) the difference. I would say that the accuracy, in my case, probably has to do with the way the CZ fits my hand like a glove.

Thanks to all ... daybro

I've forgot to talk about the trigger. In double action, it's not as sweet as my SIG ... but very close, and I suspect after breaking in will be just as good. In single action, same thing. My best SIG trigger has about 3,000 rounds fired (plus 1,000s dry fired) and this CZ is already, with less than 200 rounds fired ... very close to being as good.

Again ... I can't recommend this gun enough!

I had two (2) CZ75 Bs. Both had the same problem; frequently locked slide open w rounds still in the mag. All mags, all ammo. Got worse, not better. Wasn't the ammo, wasn't the mags...

Seems it is a known problem CZ is aware of, and has been aware of, for a long time. My guns were made in 1996, purchased in 2002. Military models (Turks?).

Fix is to replace the old "bent" slide stop spring w the new "straight" ones. CZ will send em to ya if ya ask nice.

Other than that, you are right; a great gun for a great price!

BTW, the CZ100 is a very good deal too IMO! Have shot the 9 and 40, both DAO triggers feel strange (bad) when ya dry fire, but in actual fire I had no problems at all getting quick and accurate hits. Can stage it to get slow and accurate hits too. Ya never know?

Maybe cuzz I'm an 47 yr old dinosaur w some DA revolver trigger time in my past? ;)

CZ75B for carry?

I would like to know of the CZ owners how manny use the CZ as their primary carry pistol? I've only handled 2 CZ75B in different shops. The first had a stiff safety. The second I could easly manipulate the safety. After that the trigger guard is huge & the trigger is far away from the grip. After gripping the pistol, in DA position, the part of my finger that pulls the trigger only reaches the side of the trigger. So the only way I can get any trigger reach is in SA. The slide stop is very far from my thumb. I could figgure out a different way to release the slide. I've only seen 75Bs in shops & gun shows. Most shop clerks never herd of CZ 75B SA. The model I would want. After expination they say they can order it. Now here's the strange thing. The 75B can be carried DA/SA or SA C&L. But it has no decocker. How is the hammer safely lowered for DA/SA carry? For me DA/SA is not an option because I can only touch the side of the trigger. Now if I choose a 75B for a carry pistol. Do I realy need to order a 75B SA? The 75B has a safety & no decocker so SA C&L carry isn't a problem. Or is there a benifit of having the SA only trigger action?

I want a CZ eventually but I had to have a brand new Markll Highpower first, now thats the real thing. But I will digress a small bit and get that CZ when I get the chance

The CZ75 B does have a long DA trigger reach; does not fit every hand.

Some use the off hand to trip the slide stop to avoid shifting the grip and/or the off hand slingshot/overhand rack of the slide to release it.

You have to pull the trigger and slowly/carefully lower the hammer to decock the B model.

CZ has a BD (decocker) model, but ya can't carry that cocked and locked. It decocks to a half cock (like SIG) so the DA trigger reach is shorter.

I've ordered a Galco Combat Master holster for the 75B and once in hand, I'll be running the CZ in IDPA. That will give me a good idea about how well suited it is as a concealed carry weapon. It is a bit heavier than my SIG P-229, which I often carry concealed with no problems, also in a CM holster.

I will most likely change the spring inside grip, which retains the mag, preventing it from free failing when released. After I've shot a few IDPA matches with it, I'll then have the AO Big Dot sights installed. The trigger is way too new for me to mess with and it's already close to my SIG.

Unless during the IDPA runs I see some reliability issues, it may very well become one of my carry guns. At this time, except for the additional weight issue, I see no reason it shouldn't be.

CZ-75B likes relatively hot ammo. I shoot Fiocchi, GECO, sometimes Wolf. Best accuracy was achieved with PMP, although
it's not a hot ammo, but seems amazingly consistent. Every 9 mm brand I tried works O.K., but UMC is a waste of money - way underpowered and not really accurate no matter what you do.
Wichester is generally O.K., so as Federal. For IDPA I like PMP.
