CZ Ultra Lux

I've been debating about my next CZ. I have the carbine and really love the gun so I've looking at the rimfires. I like the special training rifle but only see this in the 455. The only seller that seems to sell it on Gunbroker, from Florida, sounds like a bit of a wack job and won't sell the gun to my state even though it's legal.

Are the 455s just as good as the 452? I do also like the Ultra Lux 452 which I do see from other sellers and I've heard good reviews of the gun. Is the ultra lux worth the plunge or should I opt for the 455 training rifle?

The 455 is not the same rifle as the 452. I am no expert, though I have a 452 Lux myself. But, my understanding from a couple of friends who use modified versions of the 452 for match shooting, is that the 455 trigger is inferior to that of the 452. That is, it can't be refined like that of the 452.

One of the friends of which I speak, happens to be a renowned gunsmith and shooter, who currently holds a world record for 1000 yard shooting. He knows his stuff. He refuses, at this point, to work on 455's, because he says they have been "cheapened" vs. the 452...and not very tunable. This also applies, even more so, to the interim model called the 453, which I believe was only in production for a short time (and not currently, I believe)*

*Edit. I was wrong. Certain versions of the 453 ARE still in production.

I present this information only in case it might help. I have not tried a 455 myself, so I cannot personally vouch for this. However, I can say that my 452 Lux was tuned by the gunsmith I mentioned above.....and it is outstanding. It will shoot sub 1/2 moa groups all day long, with match grade ammo....and the trigger is truly wonderful. The last match I shot, I scored 992 - 47X, out of a possible 1000.

Can't make a truly valid recommendation (because I have no experience with the 455 for comparison).....but knowing what little I do know, I'd opt for a 452 myself. I do know that they can be tuned to be nothing short of terrific.
