CZ the best bolt-action for the money?

I'm hankering to expand the arsenal by way of the bolt... Everything I'm reading in my research is leading me to believe CZ bolt actions are the best bolt action dollar for dollar... talk to me...

Your right id say, with Remingtons quality and prices of others CZ is getting very popular. The only other rifle that id say for the price is the Venture from T/C but they dont look as stylish but will shoot about the same

If they are what you like then yes that is your best value for your dollar. CZ makes nice rifles but so do others. I've found the Stevens 200 to be a great value, but they sure aren't pretty. I really find that used rifles are your best value these days, it is a buyers market.

Recent suprises for me (for the dollar)...

Howa Varmint/Target $399
Marlin XS7S $369
Savage Axis $269

All were under 1" with FGM ammo. I have a CZ in .223 and it is a great gun that looks better than the ones above but doesn't perform any better.

Not in my opinion. Remington SPS, T/C Venture are about as good a value as you can get in the bolt action market today. Just my opinion, nothing else.

To me, too many people put looks into the category of "best".

Looks don't have anything to do with what is best to me. If it performs very well and has amenities that I want, that is what makes it best to me. Looks don't come into play unless i'm wanting a rifle that looks good above all else... just my .02 (.05 with inflation).

I will also vote for the T/C Venture and add the Weatherby Vanguard.... I own both and they shoot very well.

I am also currently lusting for a Marlin XS7 in 243 Win and they can be had for just a shade over $300 if you search carefully. The trigger on the one I tried was great..........

What I want to know is, Where are all the "great deals" on used rifles I keep hearing about????????? In my area the gunshops and pawn shops ask almost new price for all the used guns of any quality. I also regularly search the web auction sites and find the same thing when I can find used guns listed. So, someone please enlighten me on where to find all these "great deals" on used guns.

If you want to stay below $300 list a Mark II Savage can't be beat. If you go up to about $360 list you can get a nice laminated stock. Also with a Varmint barrel you can do targets and vermin. Of course you get the Accutrigger and all the other Savage niceties. I have a 917 BVSS and it is a joy to shoot. Plus even with a varmint barrel it weighs only 6 lbs, not a super lightweight but light enough to go vermin hunting.

Agreed I would like to know also. In fact most of the older used 700s are fetching a higher price than the new ones.

Depends what caliber your talking, the general consensus is CZ certainly makes the best value for money in rimfires.
But once you get into center fires its open to a heck of a lot of variables.
CZ seem to make nicer rifles that are definitely good, but they tend to have nice stocks and make a classier rifle that puts up the price.

For a straight deer gun that'l just get scratched from being hauled through the bush, remington, weatherby, tikka, savage and others come up.

It all depends on what your wanting from your gun.

If I was getting a 22lr id get a CZ, a 308 a tikka or savage, a heavy barrel varmint gun a savage

I own three CZ bolt action rifles. I think they are the best bang for the buck, but then I'm not exactly impartial. :D

I have two CZ rifles that I will put up against any of my other rifles for accuracy, even my very accurate Savage.

BUT a new CZ 455 has changed my mind about CZ's accuracy consistency.
It will barely shoot under 0.9 inches at 50 yards with any of 10 different ammos with a good Weaver T-36 scope and good match grade ammos - Eley, Wolf MT and ME, and several others.
Its trigger was a rough 5 lbs from the factory and fully adjusted to the bottom of the stop won't go below 4.5 lbs and has not smoothed out a bit.

The CZ 455 should have never been shipped from the factory.

My .223 CZ 527 shoots groups half that size at 100 yards so it is not the shooter.

I have 2 Savage MK IIs and 3 CZs. I gotta say that if your talking price over quality the Savages have it over the CZs. Now, if your talking 22s, you can't beat the CZs for quality over price. When it comes to sporter (V-notch) iron sights, the CZs have the best at any price.

You're not going to walk into a pawn shop or local gunshop cold and get a great deal on anything. You'll pay retail or close to it.

Do you know the first names of your local counter-guys? I do. (Al, Warren, and Joe) I also buy three or four firearms a year, and I've done that for the past seven or eight years. I'm a good repeat customer. I get better deals on firearms than some guy who walks in cold, because my gun guys know what I'm looking for, know that I pay cash, and they know that I won't nickel-and-dime them to death.

In my favorite shop, the owner also owns a pawn shop in Missouri. He tells me that the firearms trade is very regional and he routinely ships guns from one shop to another, depending on what's selling. For example, in this area he can't sell a Savage 99 for anything like a reasonable amount. Folks here don't like them. However, he can send that same Savage 99 to his shop in MO and sell it in short order.

In every small shop, there are two or three prices for a used rifle. If you're a good customer, you might bargain with the guys and get a better deal. Of course, you've also got to be able to walk away from a deal that you consider too steep. It's okay to do that.

But, I've learned that in the gun trade it sure is helpful to know the guys you're dealing with.
