CZ P-01s impossible to find local

With my birthday passing I was excited to get a new handgun that would be feasible to carry since my CWP application is in the mail. I have had my 75BD for a little over 4 years now and it has done great for me so I decided I wanted to get the P-01 for a lighter and slightly more compact option that doesn't sacrifice many features. I didn't realize finding one would be so difficult.

I called every store within an hour and a half of my location (Greenwood, Greenville, and Columbia) and nobody had them. One store owner said he'd love to be able to sell them but rarely ever saw them in stock. I went to at least 3 stores to see if they would be able to get one for me and every one said they were not only out of stock and backordered, but "allocated" (meaning a list of stores in front of them that had signed up to receive one).

Luckily I have found a few online stores that carry them for a reasonable price, but I don't understand why I can't seem to find any in stores. If I ever do see a CZ handgun in the store, it's either a basic 75 model or one of their newer polymer guns (which I am absolutely not enamored with).

I hope to be getting one online soon and hope it will live up to the expectations after not being able to find one anywhere locally. I wonder if it's a supply side issue or a demand side issue.

CZs are always hard to find around here. Even the rifles. Had a LGS order one for me a while back. They even matched Bud's price.

I went on the same search as you about a month ago, and had the same results. I finally gave in and picked up a P-07, and was pleasantly surprised, to say the least.

Do yourself a favor, and don't write off the CZ P-07 so easily. Mine has that distinctive CZ feel, but with a lighter weight, and slightly lower cost. (For now.) They are very, very nice guns.

I ran into the same issue a few months ago. My first real pistol was a P-01 and I was looking to buy another, but couldn't find one ANYWHERE.

I did happen across a PCR a LGS and so I grabbed it for carry. It's basically the same exact gun, minus the light rail. I like it.

A little insight about CZ, they Suck! at marketing that is. They make a most excellent weapon. I have Several of their pistols, including the Sp-01 and the P-01. The SP-01 was a custom built by Angus Hobdel. It is the best competition pistol I own, hands down. I have some high dollar custom 1911's that I put it ahead of in both accuracy and reliability. Stores do not stock them because the average casual shooter has never heard of them. Distributors do not stock them for the same reason.

I keep hearing that CZ is the best kept secret in the shooting world. In my opinion it is the worst kept secret. With the ole internet there are loads of people who know about CZs. With the exception of the polymer models and anything in 40SW (pretty universal these days) whenever a CZ comes in at the stores near me it's gone pretty darn fast. People buy them. I think the supply could be bumped up and still not meet the demand.

I have never had any trouble getting any CZ pistol I wanted. Every one I have ever bought, except the custom sp01 came direct from CZ to the gunsmith who holds the FFL. I actually ordered them myself.

There seem to be lots of them on Gunbroker. I've had excellent results buying guns off that site. Generally have any purchase in my hand in about 4 -5 days after starting the process.

The P-07 gen 2 is a good option, unless you just want an alloy frame rather than poly.

Online would be the best bet for the P-01...

I seen the Cabela's and PSA in Greenville carry the P-07.

I see full size models in stock more often than anything else.

Out here I have found a local shop that has a crap ton of different models of CZ, they even have the last Anniversary version on hand an the Soviet version if I am remembering correctly.

Really dig this little battle pistol. I live in KS so not far from KC might have to see if they've got one close by since CZ USA HQ is in KC.

I haven't shot the P07 and I may have to one day, but I have felt them and polymer guns really don't do it for me. I ended up ordering a P01 from deguns.net for $540 with free shipping, so I'm not terribly upset at the price. May have been the last one though

I am beginning to wonder if CZ is not replacing it with the P-07. When you go into CZ factory website to order guns, they no longer show it. They show 30+ pistols as out of stock, but they do not show the P-01 at all.

I saw a new P-01 in OD Green that was offered at a really good price a while ago. The color was just awful but I should have bought it on the spot & had it refinished! - LOL

Keep in mind that the folks who populate gun forums are only a tiny fraction of all gun owners. I don't mean just here - if you sum up the active user base of the Top 20 gun forums combined, it might equal 1% of the people who buy a gun in a single year.

Of that small number, multiply again by the number who like DA/SA, and then again by the small percentage who plan to buy one at a given time. Now consider that against the population a LGS might expect to serve.

I love my CZs, and I'm hardly alone, but the fact is it's a niche market. There are a considerable number of us nationwide, but not enough to sustain a lot of turnover locally. If I owned a LGS, I might have a few CZs to rent, but I probably wouldn't bother to keep them in stock.

Really, if I were in charge of CZ's marketing, I'd try to flood the market with their 455 rifles to build name recognition. I think those are best in class for the price point. Once you make a name for yourself there, then try to expand with pistols.

I have to respectfully disagree. With internet blogs, forums, and heck even YouTube I think CZ is more well known than many give it credit for. It doesn't hurt either that in any of the sources I just mentioned the majority of reports are very positive.

Have you had your local gun shop check with Lipsey's? They are a wholesale company and currently show two P01s and two PCRs on their web site. Still could be out of stock though.

Actually, there are more than two P01s. There are some with the Omega trigger.

I can't find any LGS around me that stock CZs, actually not many stock Sig neither. This is the South but it's what I call the "Ford & Chevy country " equivalent of " Glock, S&W and Ruger" world. I ended up buying my collection online.
