CZ P-01 Opinions

Just got my P01 and I absolutely love the gun...but yeah, racking is very different than a Beretta..but it just fits my hand like a glove...:D

I've found it - and the 5-6 CZ's I've owned - to be superb handguns.

If I could point to something as a negative, I would agree with some here that some may find the narrow slide problematic. If it is going to be a carry gun that you will train with/shoot regularly, it should not be a problem, but it is different from many other guns in that regard, no doubt.

Swiss, welcome to The Firing Line. Nice of you to join us.

I am in full agreement with all of those who praise the various CZ-75 versions. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to sell off the PCR (decocker) but there is no way I will sell the P-01 (decocker).

And I am trying to decide if I want to buy the RAMI (decocker) or just keep the RAMI (safety). I just like that decocker and trigger design. I'm not sure I will bother getting any trigger job on any of my CZ-75 (and RAMI) models as I like the factory trigger that much.

For these guns there is a line of G-10 grip panels sold under the name "Cool Hand". I purchased 3 sets for 3 guns, all through Amazon. These are cheaper than VZ grips. They also sell fancy grip screws for these.

Almost all CZ's are stout, great, accurate shooters. They look good on the outside but..........tend to look a little bit like they were finished by hungover Dwarves by firelight using wood chisels and a battle hammer on the inside. I usually cringe at the inside..........but I have NEVER had one fail to work. To be fair some of the newer ones are much better then I remember. That aesthetic/finishing flaw aside man CZ makes a hellofa gun.

I have several Cool Hand grips and have been very satisfied with them. As a matter of fact I have a set on my P01, what a coinkydink. :D Mine of, course, has the super secret squirrel NSN number so when I lift it to the sky and shout "BY THE POWER OF GRAYSK.....ERRR HEREFORD!!!" I turn into a super secret squirrel operator. True story. :D

I carry a P-01 and it's an it's an outstanding pistol. I don't carry lights or lasers so if I had to do it again I would go with the PCR but that's personal preference. I sent mine to Cajun gun works for their trigger job, night sights, 85 combat trigger and I couldn't be happier. My only complaints are the weight and the sights. You would have to be a bald eagle to see to those pathetic sights. I think it's heavy but if you pack a Beretta 92 you won't notice it. I think I'll look for something single stack for summer. I'm probably the only person in the world that dosent think the factory grips are the greatest thing ever so I put slims on it and it's great. I've got about $1100 in it but I would put it up against guns twice it's price now. If you go that way, at least change the sights.

Back on Page 1, when I listed pros and cons for my PCR, how in hell did I neglect to mention the sights? Tiny dots. Who can see those?

Really like it, not just the DA pull, ergos, but also the overall superb engineering.

Note: my only prev. handguns are WW2 Mauser Hsc, WW2 Sauer 38H, and Only Carry Gun was a .380 Russian Makarov--until a handgun class in November. Am 62, better late than never.

Even some Israeli Border undercover officers carry PO1s when off duty.
That's how/why I bought mine, from the Israeli guy who instructed our class.

One of the best compact, carry sized handguns you can buy. I had a P-01 a while back and would love to replace it with a newer Omega version.

Thank you to everyone that has replied. Thanks to my security officer credentials, I got a pretty sweet deal on brand new P-01 which should hopefully arrive tomorrow. I'm definitely going to be switching both the grips and the sights.

...The recoil spring is hefty, which, combined with the narrow slide, makes it a chore to cycle. (This, I know, may change over time.)

There are simple solutions to that issue: 1) a lighter recoil spring which WON'T lead to frame damage -- that's a myth, or 2) cocking the hammer before racking the slide. Either of those practices (or both) can subtly or dramatically make the slide easier to rack. Then, 3) using the hand-over method of racking the slide, with the hand on top of the rear sight, racking the slide is even easier, making it unnecessary to PINCH the slide from the rear using the "slingshot" grip.
