Thanks. The STW is one I'm looking at, along with the 7-300 WM, Dakota and Mashburn. Barrel life is a consideration, though all of these- including my "original" thought of the .300 WM eat them for lunch. I'd like to get 1500 rounds or so...and I think the STW and Dakota are more in the 750-1000 range. Fine for a hunting rifle, not so great for target.
Just need to research the trade-offs of barrel life, ease of re-barreling (obviously easier to order a .300 WM match barrel for a Savage and screw it on), and what's involved in making the brass for a wildcat. I don't shoot comps so I'm not going to waste time in hair-splitting on chamberings that can shoot better than I can.
