CZ-82?

One of the best all-round 9x18 semi-autos you can buy.

As good as the Makarov in terms of reliability and durability, and a more sophisticated design. (Makarov lovers will argue that the "more-sophisticated" design is maybe a disadvantage.)

Good, accurate, pleasant to shoot, and holds more rounds, etc.

I'd rather not say, because every time I do people will post "oh well I got mine 20 years ago for $50!" or something like that.

Just looking for input from people who own them.

Like any surplus handgun the condition is everything. These came to our shores ranging from worn out crap to quite nice. A good one is reliable, pretty accurate and has good ergonomics. Several parts are susceptible to wear, namely the sear and mag release. Make sure it has and keeps the tiny slide release spring. Without it the gun is all but useless. Would have been a really nice gun if it had a de-cocker IMO. Good but complicated "commie" gun worth having in a collection. I've had a couple of them and their twin the CZ83.

Don't worry about what anybody paid for anything 20 years ago. Prices go up and stupid politicians make them go even higher, so the question should be how much are they now not then.:D;)

The CZ-82 was used by the Czech military (as a replacement for the CZ-52); some were also used by Israeli police, and the North Korean and Vietnamese militaries. The models available on the surplus market typically didn't see a lot of active service, and after the fall of the Soviet Union (and the Warsaw Pact) most of them moved directly into sales to the West. I've owned three, and all three were very nice.

I've yet to see one that wasn't in pretty good condition. Every one I've seen, except for some that had been used by their current owners for some time (and had "nicked up" finishes), was pretty nice.

Nowadays, CZ-82s can sell for anywhere from $150 to $300 when buying from a dealer, and in a range of prices in private sales. There were a couple on Gun Broker for $125 +/-, but there was almost 6 days to go on the bidding -- and I'd expect that gun to sell for quite a bit more.

The CZ-83, which was recently discontinued by CZ, is basically the same gun available in .32, .380 and 9x18. The CZ-83s guns have nicer finishes. You may find some CZ-82s with after-market barrels in .380, too, but they were never made THAT way originally. (Barrel swaps take a special tool, called a barrel press.)

Magazines for the .380 or 9x18 CZs can be used in either the 82 or 83 models; same mag -- different capacity. Parts shouldn't be a problem -- but magazines can be hard to find. They show up on CDNN from time to time, and you can find them elsewhere.

I liked mine, wish I still had it.

Preferable to the Makarov in my opinion. Down-to-fire safety, higher capacity, wider grip makes it more comfortable to shoot. I found that getting a Wolff recoil spring just a bit stronger (one pound (?) higher than the stock weight) made it more comfortable still. Mine was Very accurate, and 100% reliable also.

I have three of the pistols and find them fine shooters. I did not like the enamel finish so i had one Cerakoated platinum/ black, one OD with small parts black and the third bead blaster abd blued. Each is distinctive and got checkered walnut from Grips 4u, all are good looking shooters now that i truely enjoy.

Buy a BOATLOAD of AMMO.

My fear on this gun is ammo will get progressively harder to come by.

There isnt much happening with new 9x18 guns these days.

They are nice guns and shoot very well (They are a bit heavy)

A few years ago, you could buy Mak ammo for 75% of 9mm

Now, its a crapshoot, but usually you pay more for 9x18 vs 9x19

What will it be like in 5 years?

The CZ82 would make a good choice for someone who is recoil sensitive, but wants a higher capacity than the sub compact 380acp pistols abailabile from civilian manufacturers. The size, and weight calms the 9X18 Makarov round recoil to nearly nothing, and the performance of the round is almost identical to 380acp. Plus a 12+1 capacity.
My CZ82 is quite accurate, and has been 100% reliable with both cheap fmj, or Hornady Custom XTP holliw point ammo.

Ballistic gel tests show very good results with the Hornady XTP round from the CZ82.

Hornady Critical Defense lacks a bit in penetration, but has great expansion.

It also is coming with a CZ made police looking duty holster with matching mag pouch and two magazines. Looks like something some Prague cop would have used. Not sure. Just waiting on it to get shipped to my FFL. Here is a pic from the auction:

I'm a sucker for milsurps/police guns that come with the issued holster and mag pouch.

Mod12, that looks like a lot more civilian set up than what came with mine a few years back. It came with the tan full flap holster with the internal mag pouch in the holster.

It's a police holster, made in Czechoslovakia (or later the Czech Republic), specifically for the CZ82. I just researched it.

Yes great gun. I should have got one when they where all over the place. But I always said to myself I will pick one up after I get this gun then this gun, etc. So I never got one sad because I love CZ's & I most of the time carry one of the CZ'S that I own now.

"Police" holster is correct. That's the black one. The brown-ish flap holster with the mag pouch attached is military issue. I have both for my CZ 82.

My friend and I both have the 380 version. They are excellent pistols. You will love it. It is easily my favorite 380 out of the six or so I have.
