CZ 75 or Beretta 92FS?

I think they are both exellent guns and it just a matter of personal choice. I do think you need both to make a full gun collection. Both have many of the same advantages, cheap Hi Caps, Extremly reliable and both are good looking.

Supposedly, during the joint-services pistol trials, non-competing (because the Cold War was still on) CZs actually beat

Where did you read that? I've never heard of the CZ being included.

[If you can't buy a SIG P226] I'd handle both and pick the one that feels best. I'd give a slight accuracy edge to CZ, trigger edge to Beretta, value to CZ, availability of parts and add-ons to Beretta.

In all likelihood, both will shoot better than you ;)
At least, that's what I've heard said of Berettas, and if CZ has an accuracy edge, then there y'go.

According to Gene Gangarossa, in his book about the Beretta company, there is a mention of the testers acquiring some sample CZ-75s that were imported (probably through Canada) that "equaled or exceeded" all other test guns (including the SIG and the Beretta).

Two things disqualified the CZ - the lack of a decocker (which would been rectified - eventually in the form of CZ-75BD - had the US been seriously interested in CZ) and, more importantly, the fact that Czechoslovakia was still behind the Iron Curtain at the time.

Have both, compared to the CZ the Beretta has a lousy SA and DA trigger pull. The CZ also fits my hand better. The workmanship on the Beretta (USA made) is superior. As to which is more reliable and which will last longer, suspect that no one has that answer.

For what it's worth: my local police dept. recently switched to 40 cal Sigs from 9 mm Beretta 92s(shot +P+ in the Berettas). The reason was that the Berettas were giving them trouble and the manufacturer was not responsive to their complaints.

Both are great. I own the 92 Brig Beretta and a .45 Tanfoglio(CZ clone). Both have been flawless, but have many more rounds through the Beretta. I like the lines of the Beretta more, JMO.

Denfoote and I must have weird hands.

I just bought a CZ 75 B a couple days ago. I was also seriously considering a Beretta 92F. I liked the looks of the Beretta more and the Beretta's grip was more comfortable, but the prices of Berettas in my area all seemed too high, so I bought the CZ. I wanted to get both anyway, and when I find a good price I will get the Beretta.

I don't have huge hands, but there's something about the way my fingers rest on the front strap of the CZ that is slightly uncomfortable. The Beretta's grip is a much better fit for me.

Both are great guns and I don't regret getting the CZ at all, but I am looking forward to getting a Beretta 92 soon.

Both guns are terrific.

Berettas have a longer track record. (+)
CZs are more affordable. (+)

Most Berettas use a drop-lug locking mechanism. (+)
Most CZs use a tilt-barrel locking mechanism. (- ) Yes, minus. Tilts are simple, reliable, and immensely popular; but for whatever reason tend to impinge ever so slightly on accuracy. Unfortunately---and until someone comes up with a better design (I'm working on it) :D---tilts are in it for the long haul.

Berettas are bulky. Even the compact ones like the Cheetah. (-)
CZs have better lines. (+)

Berettas have fewer FTEs due to the huge opening in the slide, which doubles as an oversized ejection port. (+)

Net score: Beretta 2, CZ 1

Beretta wins.

They are both fine pistols (as far as 9mm double stacks go ;) ) Neither is a bad choice. I prefer the way the CZ feels in my hands to the way the Beretta does, but it's not a big difference.

Earlier on this thread it was posted that the CZ was much heavier, but I did not find that to be the case, but I did not personally weigh each of them. On their respective websites, the unloaded CZ 75B is reported to weigh 35.2 oz (1000 grams) and the unloaded 92FS is reported to weigh 34.4 oz. 0.8 of a oz is not enough to matter in my opinion.

Another Vote for the CZ...

Boy, I've got to chime in here...my duty gun (military) is the Beretta, my long-time personal choice has been my Sig P226; I've recently found a "very" inexpensive CZ85...and have been very impressed!

The Beretta is a good shooter and service gun...it's biggest advantage over my CZ85 is the weight. Ergonomics definately goes to the CZ (even feels better than my P226:o ). The trigger on the CZ85 (can't speak for the 75) is MUCH better than my duty Beretta...plus the "locked-and-cocked" feature is real sweet! To be honest, I haven't had any FTFs or FTEs in my Beretta, Sig or the CZ. Of the three, the CZ feels the most solid, and it is comparable in accuracy with my SIG...in fact, I've found I often shoot better with the CZ out of all three. I really can't knock the Beretta, except for its size, but if I had to choose one 9mm, and SIG wasn't an option:D , I'd go with the CZ!

Carried the Beretta as an USAF MP, also owned a Taurus and shot my brothers Beretta, don't care for it. My CZ OTOH is a different story. I like the way it feels and shoot it quite well.

CZ-75

I've heard stories of the Berreta slide stop shearing off or something, and the slide hitting you in the head, that will ruin anyone's day. Has anyone else heard this?

It happened once to a Navy SEAL who was shooting hot homemade rounds through it. Beretta inserted a pin designed to block the slide from flying off.
