Which one would you choose and why? The price difference doesn't matter to me. Are there any big advantages or disadvantages of going with one over the other? I am torn and would really appreciate some opinions.

I already have a CZ 75B and I think it is the single best value in a new full sized 9mm service pistol. Since I'm perfectly happy with mine I would not trade it for an SP-01, although there really is not a bad choice to be made between these two firearms.

They're pretty much the exact same gun mechanically - as far as I know, the only functional difference is that the SP-01 has an extended dust cover/rail.

I own an SP-01 tactical (decocker + night sights), and plan on buying a 75B sometime in the next year.

I think the classic 75B looks better, but the rail does add a little bit of functionality and the added weight at the front helps dampen recoil just a tiny bit more.

I like the looks of the full dust cover and full length rail better. Also like that the SP-01 comes with an 18 round magazine. I don't need a rail but it doesn't hurt to have it.

I have a few CZs. The SP-01 has a nicer up swept beaver tail than a standard B. That said I think the Bs balance better. If you don't need double action the 75sa has the best of both worlds, the beavertail and the balance.

I bought my 75b SA because I wanted a 9mm with good capacity that could be carried locked and cocked just like my 1911's... And it's a boatload less expensive than a Hi Power.

WOW... IMHO the 75B and the CZ line in general is the best value to be had in the handgun market.

OP should be happy with either.

Tack

SP-01... because I already have a 75B

I do like the looks and feel of the SP-01, the extended beavertail makes a comfortable pistol, more so.

The biggest advantage I see with the SP-01 is the rail so you can mount a light on it. I think a light is a good option to have for a self defense weapon. If you don't care about or don't want a rail then you may prefer the regular CZ75.

I've got an SP-01 Tactical and like it a lot. I've thought about getting a CZ 75 stainless model sometime in the future. CZ makes fantastic pistols. I doubt you'll regret your purchase whichever one you choose.

SP-01 for me. I had the choice when I was choosing but went for the SP.

Agree that the 75B is a bit better balanced and would carry more easily due to fewer pokey bits.

I liked the SP-01 for the extra mag, the night-sights, the ambi-safety and the rail. I also like the looks more: the SP-01 has real presence for me.

Had I bought the 75B (omega trigger model) I'm sure I'd have been pleased but I am glad I chose the SP for my needs.

As Railroader said, the SP01 has an upswept beavertail tang. Whereas, the '75 has a tang that has a very pronouced edge to it. If you have big hands, this is crucial.

I had a perfectly tuned '75 with a seriously sweet trigger. But I had to sell it because the tang dug into my hand. As much as I wanted to get over it, it simply was no longer fun to shoot.

My only question now is, SP01 or P09...

It would be a multi purpose gun for me. I would use it for home defense and practice with it at the range. I also would like to try competitive shooting at some point.

I would say either would do. It would be a case of which you prefer the feel of.

I think in terms of feel the 75B had the edge in the shop, but that didn't stop the SP-01 feeling very nice indeed. So the fact that the SP still felt good and it had the extras I described clinched the deal for me.

The beavertail is great, that is true, but get a comfy holster if you carry or you'll give yourself abdominal surgery!

Also try for DA trigger pull/reach as well as slide release access. I don't think short fingers and CZ play well together. Mine are borderline, but I've leanrt to work around it.

I would choose (did choose) the CZ 75B. I don't like the clunky rail or full dust cover of the SP01. The 75B has a more refined, sculptured look. Also, it came in a polished blue, which I really like. Performance wise, I doubt there is any difference at all.

Do the stainless 75B's have the same beaver tails as the SP-01? I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

The only difference between the 18-round SP-01 mags and the 16-round 75 mags are the baseplate. You can spend $5 to put an SP-01 base plate on a 75 mag, and now you've got an 18-rounder. Personally, I prefer the 16-rounder with a rubber base pad, but I do keep a spare 18-round mag in the nightstand, just in case of super duper emergencies where I might need 34 rounds.

Anyway, I voted for ( and bought) the SP-01 entirely because of the rail, but prefer the looks of the 75B. And as I said earlier, I expect to have both sometime soon. Which, this being a gun forum, is inevitably going to be the consensus answer.

Actually, ignore what I just wrote about the base pads - that's completely wrong. I got it mixed up with the Mec-Gar +2 base pads; the SP-01 base pads can be used to turn a standard 75 mag into an extended mag for the compact.

I haven't had my coffee yet.

Do the stainless 75B's have the same beaver tails as the SP-01?

Yes. Same as the 75B SA models, too.

The longer dustcover of the SP-01 line is better for those shooting competition, as the extra weight helps both with recoil (a hair) and muzzle flip. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that the Stainless and SP-01s also have reversible mag releases, too.

Just recently developed an interest in CZ pistols. The one that attracted my attention is the 75 SP-01 Shadow Target. My shooting buddy thinks he likes the 75 Tactical Sport better. The Tactical Sport would be more appealing for me with adjustable rear sights, probably not the ultimate for competition shooting; and in a single color. However, the Tactical Sport is more attractive overall; I'm not a fan of rails. Can live with them, but they spoil the lines of some guns.

It would help to have access to both guns to physically see and feel what they're like.

I have a 75, 75B, 97B, and Kadet so you can see I probably like CZ's. A close friend has an SP-01 that I have shot a good amount at our club. I like the slight extra weight the rail gives, but don't like rails in general. The gun shoots great, and he installed a lighter hammer spring which helped the trigger pull.

That all being said, my next CZ would probably be the rail-less Shadow. You just have to decide if you want a rail or not.
