CZ 527- All-Purpose carbine?

just a heads up.....NECG...is making peep sights for the CZ527...for those of us who rather keep the rifle lean and low profile

^That's awesome!^

I'm a big fan of peep sights & a simple, robust setup.

As for bullets in .311, there's not much out there but there are some nice ones. After getting an AK recently, I ran across a pretty big pile of x39 brass at the range. I never planned on loading for the caliber due to it's economics & the rifle's accuracy (or lack of?) doesn't make it worth it in my book.

But since I came across the brass for free.. I flip through my newest Hornady manual & saw that I had a few suitable powders. I ordered a 100 123gr Vmaxs & went to town at a friend's that already has dies.

I'm not expecting bench rest accuracy by no means but this will show me if you can get more out of an AK by feeding it good components.

As for a CZ in x39 I would expect it to be a nice improvement over the steel stuff. They look like a high quality rifle that would like high quality components.

I've tried some factory bullets, (the 527 is a .310 bore, .308 is under size, sorry - http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-527-carbine-7-62x39-5-rd-mag/ ), but I like the Hornady 123gr spire point for many uses. I have had pretty good luck with it over 27 grains of AA#1680 - my hunting load, if you will, being a soft point bullet. The selection of bullets for 7.62x39mm is pretty lean, compared to other 30 caliber bullets, but I found another way to broaden the spectrum - hand casting my own. This older picture also shows a Lyman bullet that I was gifted with several to try out - not bad at all.

This is my favorite, shown here hard lubed, as opposed to tumble lubed as in the above photo.

Thank you for the kind comments about my rifle stock - the maker and genius is in Mesa if you would like to contact him for rifle work. :) PM for details, be happy to connect people looking for interesting stuff.

kawasakifreak - free brass? Nice score - that is the one thing that is the hardest to find for me. I have some brass with so many ejector dings in the rim that I cannot count how many times they've been loaded. Seriously.

Yeah that stock pretty much is the bees knees! I love the spare magazine in the buttstock, very Steyr scout rifle-ish!

GOD I CAN'T WAIT TO BUY ONE OF THESE JUST WAITING FOR A GOOD PRICE! :D

Here is my CZ 527 All Purpose .223 Rem. Love this gun. This last spring I laid up my own carbon kelvar stock with epoxy resin. I imbedded an aluminum action block and aluminum support for the sling studs, 3/4 walnut plate for the butt pad and then filled it with low density expanding foam. Total weight - 28 oz. I was going to paint textured tan, but it looked neat, so I sprayed it with UV protecting clear.

I've been running a 527 in 7.62x39 since the late 90's after I first saw one, I've since gifted that one to a relative and bought two more. One has been set up as a brush gun with an NECG peep for some years (I'm eagerly waiting for www.skinnersights.com to finish his CZ specific peep which should be wonderful given his other designs), the other is sporting a fixed 4x for open terrain.

I exclusively use M67 which produces brilliant sub-MOA performance, but even the cheap stuff is outstanding out of the CZ. Given the right conditions I have no concerns whatsoever taking dear out to around 400, and I've taken elk out to around 200. Critters go down just as fast with the Russian shorty as with any well placed 30-30, 308, or 30-06.

Light, compact, rugged, accurate, cheap to shoot, and even looks good :-)

I have the CZ 527 in .223 REM with a 1:9 twist. I think that it is an excellent choice for the 7.62x39 and if I had owned any ammo in 7.62x39 I would have considered that rifle.

Here are the results of mine shooting with a scope of sand bags on the hood of our truck.

I have one in x39.

Honestly I wouldn't mind selling my seldom used AR for the new one in 223. It's that nice. That way I'm actually thinking about my shots and ejected cases can just stay on the ground instead of scrounging brass x39's to reload.

Hmm.

You'll enjoy the little CZ. It's a quality rifle. I own one in 5.56 that is used for varmint hunting. Hopefully none of your cheap ammo uses corrosive primers. If so I would avoid using it in my CZ. Otherwise put a decent 3-9x40 scope on it and plink away. As for home defense your SKS will do just as well if not better. In a scenario that the government would be looking at what you have across your shoulder it won't matter if its an AK, or a CZ. A gun is a gun. You'll be more accurate with your CZ, but a battle rifle it is not.

All I use is corrosively primed ammunition in my 527's, there isn't even a hint of an issue.
I've never understood this fear of using it
