Hey guys! Well... I want a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39mm. Here is a picture of one, this is NOT my rifle but I want to get one and set it up just like this with a lightweight variable power scope and a sling:
Cool huh? I think so! The reason I want this rifle is I see a lot of potential in it as an all-purpose, multi-use carbine. For me personally, I own two SKS rifles and have a bunch of steel-cased cheap 7.62x39mm ammo laying around... and that's exactly what the CZ 527 rifle was designed to fire. It's bore diameter is actually .311 if I remember correctly, and supposedly the gun was designed with steel cased ammo in mind. This gun has gained a reputation for excellent accuracy even with the cheapest surplus ammo, the same stuff than an AK or SKS will sling out in 3-5 MOA groups this thing can put them in 1-2 MOA groups or less.
So that's pretty awesome. I LOVE my SKS rifles, but they aren't target guns. They are super enjoyable to shoot, but it can be hard to strive for maximum performance just due to the design, handling, and inherent accuracy in the guns. They are combat rifles, and they feel and shoot like it. I just think it would be awesome to have a gun that shoots the same cheap ammo but is capable of quite a bit better accuracy with the same stuff and handles/feels like a classic target or hunting rifle and is much lighter weight and more handy.
Now, other than just me wanting one for those reasons, I also think this would be a good all-around hunting/survival/SHTF/defensive gun as well. Now sure, it's a gun of compromises. It's 7.62x39mm chambering is effective for defense out to at least 300 yards, and effective for hunting out to about 150 yards, and the gun loads from 5 round detachable box magazines. The rifle also weighs just under 6 lbs OTB, with a lightweight scope and a sling I have seen other get the entire loaded gun under seven pounds. It also supposedly handles like a dream as most of the weight (magazine/scope/bolt) are all in the center of the gun. This little rifle just looks like it will be so much easier to carry around and manuever than an SKS in an everyday hunting or SHTF scenario.
Also, it looks VERY benign and would look far better to authorities if they saw one with it vs. walking with an AK-47 or AR-15. Now as for firepower in a defensive role, it's 5 shots of 7.62x39mm in a fast smooth bolt action with manageable recoil for follow up shots and the ability to reload quickly with spare magazines. A sturmgewehr or minigun it is not, but without a doubt I don't think that would be anything to sneeze at and it sure would make me duck!
So without rambling on, as you can see the CZ 527 is a high quality, high accuracy, very lightweight and compact rifle and shoots cheap ammo that I have plenty of on hand anyway. With it's excellent handling and shooting characteristics I think it would make a fine all purpose carbine for all sorts of uses. I just need some feedback on this before I make the purchase.
So what do you guys think of this rifle? Should I consider something else, do you own or have had any personal experiences with the CZ 527? I'm looking forward to your responses,
Thanks!
