Z, you're wise to hold out for a 452 American. I have two. One set up with a light trigger (via Brookes Kit) for silhouette and another kept at 3+ pounds to qualify for CMP Sporter competition. I would not hesitate to buy a third if a good deal crosses my path.

Check out the Weaver V-16. A very good all around scope.

Sportsmatch UK rings and mount (some people say they are ugly, but I love them and they are rock solid).

Scope, up to you and your requirements. I have a cheapish Tasco World Class 3-9x40 on mine and it does a fantastic job.

Bushnell E4200 4-16x40 on my American, in Burris Signature Zee rings (high). Have to run the scope as far forward in the mounts as possible to clear the bolt handle (will hit the mag adjustment ring past 14x, otherwise), but I "crowd" the rifle & it works perfectly for me.
