Looks like CZ is getting to the Mil Spec 1911 business. Forged frame and slide with a 5 lb trigger. It has a reasonable rollmark, some might consider it too big, and with a black oxide finish. Nice well thought out upgrades like checkered walnut grips, serrated slide stop, magazine catch and mainspring housing. It has improved sight with a front dovetail so you can can that sight out assuming it is a standard cut.

Hopefully they have borrowed a bit of know how from the DW side of the business. Will be interesting to see what is sells at. MSRP is $850 so I would expected a street price around $750.

That looks absolutely fantastic. A 1911 with CZ's reputation for ruggedness and reliability? And it looks beautiful.

If the early reports on this gun are good, it might end up being my first 1911.

That looks great except for the giant 'CZ 1911A1' stamped on the side. (I assume that's stamped in there, and not a watermark on the photo; it's hard to tell on my phone).

Honestly, I think they're a little late entering a crowded market. I'm much more excited about the fact that it's being manufactured in the USA - meaning they might soon be able to bypass import restrictions and start developing a single-stack DA/SA 9mm for concealed carry. Or maybe even the .32 CZ-83.

By todays standards I think the rollmark is acceptable. I wish it was smaller but almost no one has a small rollmark these days.

Its not as bad as this IMHO.

The problem is that the 1911's aesthetic is so minimalist that any lettering looks rather obtrusive. I don't think the lettering on any of my CZ's are anywhere near that obnoxious, but they're also much more busy than a 1911; it might just look worse because it's otherwise bare.

I thinks it is very similar to other CZ rollmarks. Most CZs rollmarks are smaller because of the design of the slide makes them very thin. The standard CZ rollmarks take of more of the slide face proportionally but I can understand what you are saying it is a little blocky and a stark contrast to the rest of the clean slide.

I assume they are being assembled by DW.

Ugh, don't get me started on that 40th anniversary model; I don't know what they were thinking. The worst part is if you go to the CZ-UB website, they have a section dedicated to some gorgeous hand-engraved CZ-75B's they've done. Some of their previous Limited Editions looked pretty good, too.

But that one gives me a headache just looking at it. They should just melt them down and start over.

I know what you mean the thing has "tramp stamp" tribal flash on it.

Since CZ-USA doesn't really (as far as I know) have manufacturing capabilities for 1911-type guns in the US, I'm not surprised that they're being assembled (if not built) by Dan Wesson, which is a CZ company. Dan Wesson guns are on the CZ-USA website.)*

The Dan Wesson guns seem to be fairly highly regarded, and since this is a bare-bones (so to speak) 1911, the price is in line with what they're asking for other DW semi-autos that come with more whistles and bells attached.

*I reworded a sentence above -- and the version TunnelRat included in his response is slightly different, he wrote as I was modifying.

I was going to ask this exact question. Also to my knowledge CZ-USA isn't manufacturing their own firearms stateside. If this is a DW contract 1911 for essentially a lower price, I'd be all over this.

Honestly, this does nothing for me. The rollmark doesn't work for me and the look is very "budget"

To each their own! I hope anyone who gets one loves it.

Its a GI type pistol so it is going to be basic not necessarily budget.

Check for tooling marks. If it comes with tooling marks then probably it's made in a CZ factory line. If no tooling marks then probably a DW factory line.

I assume it is very high quality if DW made it. It does bother me though that they didn't put their name on it. I would hope it doesn't have the current bane of the 1911, the FP safety.

I'd love to see it.

The big question is clearly whether DW is involved with it and to what degree. If this is going to be a DW GI with no MIM parts and decent fitting then it might be worth the asking price. However, if it's just going to be one more run of the mill, MIM filled clone competing for the same market segment as the SR1911, R1, Mil-Spec, GI-Expert, etc., I can't see the point. Plenty of those out there already at better prices. Heck, for what their asking I can choose from several different Colts, CZ needs to bringing something pretty special to the table to get me to buy their gun over a Colt for the same money.

I'm going by my friend's shop today, he's a CZ and DW dealer, I'm going to see what he knows about it.
