CZ 1911A1 has hit the market...

CZ USA is headquartered in KC. That is where their FFL/Import Lic is held so it is stamped on the pistol. IIRC the roll mark does not denote where the pistol was made.

That is my understanding, but the rest of CZs firearms state that they were made in the Czech Republic. Dan Wesson 1911s are some of the best in the industry. If it is in fact made by Dan Wesson it would seem that CZ would wish to promote that fact. If nothing more than saying where it was made on the gun.

If they want to make a GI style under the Dan Wesson brand they would have but they didn't. They are seen as a high end production 1911 so it is understandable that they would release it under the CZ label. It is a win win for both brands.

Also CZ cannot label their pistol with an address other than their FFL/importer address. If they used the NY address it would have to be under the Dan Wesson FFL and be manufactured under the Dan Wesson name. It is a CZ labelled pistol so it has to bare the CZ address.

It's a common marketing ploy. For example, Acura, Honda's premium line of automobiles, sells their cars under their label, not Honda, and I believe they require Acura and Honda dealers to be a minimum geographic distance apart to preserve Acura's image of premium quality. The same relationship, I believe, exists between Infiniti and Nissan.

By selling this DW-made 1911 A1 branded as a CZ, the DW image for quality is not harmed, but a knowledgeable consumer can get what is a low-end DW pistol for a $500 discount. One would hope/expect the fundamental quality of construction to be DWish, probably comparable to a Springfield Armory product?

Cz owns Dan Wesson and comes out with an entry level 1911 without diminishing the Dan Wesson name, who would have thunk it...
