Sparks,
according to some links you are correct and others not. Sadly our friends at fish and wildlife dont have it clearly stated online. I will have to dig up my manual.
Straight from the VT Fish and Wildlife regs, here you go...
It is illegal while hunting in Vermont to use, carry, or have
in your possession a machine gun of any kind or description
or an autoloading rifle with a magazine capacity of over 6
cartridges, except a .22 caliber rifle using rim fire cartridges.
And the last few years books to see what else i didnt know. I am going to do the mentored hunting thing with the lady friend next year as well. Either of you two vermont guys care to do a Green Mountains day here and do some shooting or hunting?
So sparks if i read that correctly any ar with a five round mag is ok. Looks like the AR is an option after all.
Hello ,I am a lefty and have both,
L/R bolts and you'd be surprised
how fast you can operate
a right handed bolt and get back on target.
I also have a few autoloaders and never once
have I had any issues being left handed.

I had the same situation 2 years ago and decided to use a Ruger Mini-14 ranch carbine. Added a VX-II, 2x-7x scope. Relatively light package to sling over my shoulder while carrying a Beretta 391 with #1 buckshot. I hunt in woods 95% of the time, and maximum range would be less than 200 yards. I switch to a T-Bolt in .22 mag for hunting after dark due to hunting rules.
If you have a .270 Win, you can buy Remington Managed Recoil ammo that uses a 125 grain deer-sized game bullet. That should be pretty good for coyotes within 250 yards and may not ruin pelts as much as hotter loads.
