Custom rifle 6.5-06.

Emcon, a fella that uses the 6.5-06 told me to use the .270 brass because its less taxing on the brass to size down than up. And so thatd what I used.
I bought a bag of Winchester .270 and necked it down and trimmed over a 1/16 from them to 2.484.
I also use the 25-06 for deer and coyotes and dont want my good 25-06 brass getting mixed up...with my luck thats what would happen...

I've had so many wildcats based off the 06 case I don't care about head stamps anymore. I just make sure that I don't reload with a dirty bench where brass might become mixed. I've also had neck tension problems necking down, but only when using 1X fired brass.

if you guys have extra 25-06 cases... I'd be happy to buy them ( I trying to build up my supplies, & only have about 100 for my 25-06 rifle )

that said, if you have access to a lathe you can knurl, then flatten the case heads pretty easily to obliterate the original head stamp... I've started trying to do that on all my reformed cases... since I load so many different ones...

another trick I'll do, is only use one brand as a load for each rifle... for example I use R-P brass for my Remy 700, Winchester cases for my woodsman carbine, Federal cases, for my custom birdseye maple, & milsurp LC cases for my Garand... could also do the same, if you are labeling your boxes well, for reformed brass...

BTW... I highly considered the 6.5-06 for my custom long range build, but ended up going 6.5 X 284 just because it was easier... in the long action, it allows me to load long slippery bullets as a repeater...

You guys got me curious, so I sized some of the cases formed .270 parents and compered them to some sized from a .25-06 with my digital calipers, and the neck thicknesses are comparable, all in the .28 to .32 mm range.

Not it isn't apples to apples, the .270 ones are one fired, and the .25-06 were probably 3 times, but I don't really see any significant difference in the cases.

Although now I am thinking about neck turning them, they were not that uniform. Accuracy is fine, so I probably won't bother.
