Custom 1911- ria frame

I love Caspian parts, and I've used them to build several 1911s.

I also like Rock Island pistols.

Caspian frames are investment castings. Armscor (Rock Island) frames are investment castings. Both are CNC machined.

Caspian slides are extrusions. Armscor slides are extrusions. Both are CNC machined.

With a Rock Island 10mm pistol, you get a complete firearm that has been factory assembled and factory tested. The cost is far less than you could possible build out a Caspian slide and frame for.

My take? It will cost the same to customize an RIA with high end parts as it will to build a gun from scratch with high end parts. If you're just going to pay attention to the fire control group, maybe change your trigger, then just get the RIA. If everything must go, then you should start with parts. Since the parts to change are still being determined, I guess there's no way to tell. I think your mind is made up and you should take the plunge.

Your target of $1100-1200 is curious, though. Any 1911 can be built by a home gunsmith for that amount in parts. Wilsons and Baers cost big bucks because an expert gunsmith handfitted it for you. If someone's doing the work for free, the gun is only worth what the parts are worth. High end everything should get you right around $1200. Some food for thought.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!
