Current collection of surplus rifles

Here are a few. I keep the good ones locked up.

Unspoken, you left me drooling! Very nice collection, I have a long way to go......

p.s. I don't think your dog appreciates his rear being posted here, I believe you committed an invasion of privacy.

I don't find the Mosins to be so hard on the shoulder, as most people claim - and I'm a skinny guy

Actually, it's a simple matter of physics; As a "skinny guy" you have less mass than a "fat guy" and, therefore, less inertia to overcome. (Assuming all other things to be equal, i.e. holding the gun properly against the shoulder, etc.)

In other words, a "skinny guy" offers less resistance to recoil and doesn't feel it as much as a large person.

Nah. It evens out when you consider other factors, such as:
I have less padding. My bones are closer to the surface. ;)

Seriously, buy an M-1 from the CMP before it's too late. You'll never regret it. I missed my chance to buy a carbine since I didn't "need" it and I've kicked myself ever since.

The shear number of forign milsurp is stagering I know I wouldn't know when to quit so I just avoid buying any. I did put together a nice US collection that I'm very happy with.

I didn't start out to collect milsurp rifles, but it kind of happened I got some anyway...

have had, and still have a few that were converted into custom sporting rifles. Very nice, I think. Did a few myself when I was young. Sadly there little cash value in them, because today's market wants either "original collectable" or new.

I wound up with a few in their issue trim, and they seemed to attract others...
Russian
M91/30
M38
SVT 40
British
WWI & WW II SMLEs
Japanese
a couple of type 99s
US
03 Springfield
17 Enfield
Garand & M1 Carbine (now in the hands of someone who deserves them)
M14 (ok, really an M1A, but GI except for the receiver)
M16 (AR15, also now in the hands of someone who enjoys it more)
German
Kar 98k
VZ 24
Yugo 48 Mauser
Swedish M96
Norwegian Krag 6.5mm
and probably a couple others I can't remember right now...

I was going to get more, but when I started getting to French and Italian, I thought...why bother?
:D

where are the 'Merican' rifles?

Part of the fun of collecting surplus rifles is buying them at a cheap price and getting a great gun in return with some interesting history behind it. Unfortunately in today's market, American surplus rifles are expensive and not as widely available as their Com Bloc counterparts.

although I completely understand the not wanting to buy a more expensive piece, the quality of a springfield or model 1917 far surpass anything that the russians ever cranked out in the form of a mosin nagant.

there are other options that in today's market are not all that more expensive than the mosin and SKS rifles like enfields, Arisakas, swedish mausers and swiss K31s which are all far superior to the mosin nagant in every regard except ammo price and availability... none of which costs more than $350 unless you get into rare versions.
