Countries that are friendly to firearms

We're getting pretty fair from the original subject:

...What countries are there that are friendly to firearms and their owners? Countries where you can get a permit to carry a weapon (and it's feasible to do so -- not a NY situation) and there aren't too many restrictions. I'm not sure I would consider Australia friendly, for instance, since I'm pretty sure they don't allow any semi automatic rifles and there are people currently trying to ban bolt actions.

Also important, what countries could a gun lover from America go to and own firearms if they became a citizen there?...

Let's stay on track, please.

If you are assaulted out on the street while your handgun is safely locked up at home, it's not much good to you.

I said that not being able to carry is not the same as not being able to defend yourself with a firearm at all.

There is a distinction and I was drawing attention to it because a member made comments on a country that only allowed sport shooting was not gun friendly given that sport-shooting (inc hunting) are in one of the main ways people enjoy gun ownership in the western countries. It also does not mean that such a weapon cannot be used in defence if it was available at the time of an attack.

It may not be as gun-friendly as the US, but it is not necessarily gun-unfriendly.

And the wonder of the Internet has made it possible for all of us here in the U.S. to read multiple news stories of people in England who have had legal firearms in their homes, have used them for self defense, and have been charged with more severe crimes than the bad guys who invaded them.

I don't think we're confused.

Is this to be another one of those?

I think that's overstated. I live in the UK and don't read many of the stories you talk about. In the UK you can use reasonable force including lethal force if necessary a weapon can be used including a firearm. It even goes further than some American states. If you used lethal force in the heat of the moment Force that in the cold light of day was obviously excessive you still would not be charged. PS Please no one point to the Tony Martin case as he used an illegal firearm. In this part of the UK lots of people conceal carry.
