Could use some advice on selecting a 22 lr handgun

My favorite is the Ruger Mark iii Target. To me, it seems to be better balanced and just as accurate as the longer barrels of the Competition Target, the Hunter and the Mark ii Government Target.

I shot my buddy's S&W Victory recently; it's nice.

There's a bunch of .22lr pistols out there. Choose one (or more). My Mark iii Target is a highly modified and tuned plinker that shoots one inch groups at 25 yards. It is also capable of hitting dots of less than one half inch at that same distance.

I was shooting an Anschutz single shot bolt action rifle with a 28 inch barrel on Tuesday at 25 yard targets, standard 25 meter targets. When evaluating results, I thought to myself they weren't that much better than the Mark iii Target.

I got a Ruger MKII and I wouldn't trade for a III . I like a MKI also.
My daughters learn to shoot early teens with the Ruger and so did a couple of their girl friends.

I have an old Ruger Standard, the predecessor of the Mark I, II, and III. I bought it used sometime around 1970. Like me, it's ancient. Also, it's very reliable and accurate. I suspect any of the Ruger "Mark" series (I, II, III) will meet your needs.

The Ruger 22/45 or Mark III will out run any other .22LR semi. I used to shoot the Steel Challenge in rimfire, and once went more than 40,000 rounds without cleaning the 22/45, other than spraying the bolt with WD40, it ran flawlessly.

Can't recommended the Ruger "Standard" highly enough. I've had mine since 1965 or so. Other than replacing the recoil spring once in all those years, there have been ZERO problems with it.

If looking for a .22 revolver, I can also highly recommend the Ruger Single Six family of guns, which are available with adjustable sights.

Just a suggestion; forget 'cheap' and get a good one. It'll be with you long after you've fallen out of love with some of the center fires. For revolvers: a Ruger Single Six, used if you can find one or new. In auto's a S&W or Browning is a good, long time buy. HTH's Rod

Browning buckmark. I think the camper version comes with 3 mags. But any version of the buckmark will work. I think you'll like the grip, and they make a pretty good trigger, too.
