In long range service rifle competition at the Nationals, the .308win. (7.62 NATO) has been shooting better scores than the .223 Rem. (5.56 NATO). This has been going on for several years, now. The US Army even got the AR-10 designated as a "US service rifle," then quit shooting 5.56MM's so they could compete against M1A's and Garands shooting .308 Win. handloads.
