Here's my question after reading all these threads about ammo manufacturers:
Are the ballistics on Triton, Cor-Bon or any of the "Major Manufacturers" high-end ammo really all that different out of a short barrel like the Kel-Tec P-40 or P-11?
I tried about 40 rounds of Cor-Bon .40 165gr, but at 16 dollars a box, coupled with the *snappy* recoil out of the light pistol, plus the two failures to feed, i decided against it. I can't find any Triton in my area to try. I have tried C-B in 9mm as well, only to return time and again to Federal Premium or Classic for use in the P-11.
I'll admit, cost is a HUGE factor. It's very hard to justify 2, 3, sometimes 5 dollars per 20 rounds in extra expense just to practice and judge reliability in my gun...so I turn to places like this for advice. At the end of the day, I feel I am going to survive a potential encounter by using Federal H-S's and proper shot placement. But sometimes...I feel like I'm shortchanging myself by not ordering enough rounds of Triton, Proload and Cor-Bon in 9mm and .40 S&W, in large enough quantities that I could test it in each of the 8 pistols in the safe.
Boy, would the UPS guy get a hernia that day.
Who can afford to test ammo like that? Gunrags, maybe, but not me. I'm scraping pennies as it is...
