Cor-Bon .45ACP Expansion Pix...You decide!

You could make a Falkler Water test box. A long wooden box that has an opening at one to shoot into. You fill it with 1 gallon food storage plastic bags, the "zip" close type, filled with water. Shoot away. Just make sure that there are drain holes in teh bottom of teh box, there is bracing to help hold the bags erect and it is not real cool since you will get wet.

No need to keep the gelatin at the correct tempatures or to even make the stuff up, a PIA itself.

Why isn't bullet-jacket separtation a good thing? (Wouldn't it add to the lead poisoning of the assailent :) )

" the stuff is loaded very hot ".......I carry Cor-Bon .357 and .38 spec for J frame and 2.5" L frame. Friend carries .45 in 220 SIG. None of these seem particularly hot, and don't look hot in the specs. Very accurate and very little loss of night vision when doing night drills.

Man, you must not have very good friends !

Really though, werent some true-to-life tests done on sheep, since it was the closest animal to us that someone could actually shoot without being jailed.?

I would like to see pics of this test. Now that would be interesting !

USP,
When the jacket seperates from the bullet, penetration usually stops shortly after. A bullet must hold together in one piece to penetrate enough to get to the vitals which is why some experts carry ball ammo as a defense round. They know they will put a .45 inch hole completely through an antagonist. A JHP is always a trade off between expansion and penetration. If you can't get to major organs or break bones you may not stop the antagonist.

Great pics! Thanks.

I fired some Corbon 185 and 230's into wet sand years ago. The 185's expanded up to an inch, while the 230's only opened slightly on one side. (This was back when they were using Gold Dots.)

Dr.Rob -

Your comment on damage to the gun intrigues me, I have well over 5,000 rounds of Cor-Bon 9mm through my P7 PSP and no signs of damage at all. What are you referring to? Obviously my expereince is good, however I do change the recoil spring every 1,000 to 1,500 rounds, and keep the gun clean.
I also have over 1,000 rounds of Cor-Bon 45ACP/165 grn through my USP 45C, with no signs of distress. In this case no recoil spring change has been made yet, even with 5,000 rounds of reloads (200 grn :LSWC IPSC Major loads) through it as well.
