"Cop Killer Gun" ... Huh?!

I have never personally fired the pistol, but i have seen them at gun shops in Vermont. i just read an article that says the ATF classified the SS196 ammunition as not armor piercing. Even the supposed SS192 ammo did not even penetrate a level II vest. I also read an article about this so called quote on quote "cop killer" that the Brady Bunch did a test and "all of the rounds penetrated the vest. Does this sound alittle contradictory to what the ATF test found? not to mention alittle one sided. Sounds to me that the were shooting at a vest with no trauma plates. IMHO it looks like a glorified 22 rimfire.

Keep in mind that "armor piercing pistol ammunition" is not defined by how well it cuts armor. Rather, the sole basis for the definition is as follows:
18 USC 921(a)(17) said:
(i) a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and
which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other
substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass,
bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or

(ii) a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and
intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25
percent of the total weight of the projectile.
It doesn't matter one whit if the ammunition is incapable of penetrating a ratty t-shirt, if it's jacket is relatively too heavy or the material is on the no-no list and it has been used in a handgun, well then it's "armor piercing". On the other side of the coin, if the ammo will shoot through both sides of a Level IV vest when fired from a short barreled pistol, as long as it doesn't meet the definition specified in 18 USC 921(a)(17) it's not "armor piercing".

(Your state law may vary)

Redworm,
The closing of that letter was excellent. Overall, it was subtle but effective in calling the DA's office out for, essentially, lying.

Ballistically, it's just a .22 mag with a spitzer bullet. In fact, it has less punch than the .22 mag (by the Winchester loadings).

Redworm - I hope he sent a copy of the orginal article and his letter to FN so that they could sue the DA's office for defamation.
