Cop Killer Ammo :rolleyes:

I have read another Darwin Award winner where the protagonist died due to the fact that his friend stuck a hunting knife through a Kevlar Vest. Since this knife, and really any with a blade over 1" is designed with the intended or unintended result of defeating ammo proof vests should we classify my set of Hoenkles table "Ever Sharp" steak knives as "Cop Killer" steak knives. Are they subject to confiscation by the local Fed LEO? Am I subject to arrest?

Allready are in England so don't give anyone ideas.

I'm old and deceitful.

If I'm not mistaken, kevlar should stop a knife pretty handily.

I believe the Darwin Award you're referring to was actually an incident at a military academy where one cadet wanted to show the other that the flak jacket he had on would stop a knife. A military flak jacket doesn't have any Kevlar in it (to my knowledge) and the knife went right through, killing the cadet.

There is also in incident with russian bank guards...
These things can happen.
I knife is sharp - it will defeat kevlar very easily. A bullet is actually a blunt impact where a knife cuts through the kevlar fibers.

In my tests 6 ply Kevlar/something else vests(warrenty was up) donated by a LEO family member was defeated by:
.223 from a 16inch Contender
Broadhead from a fairly cheap Crossbow
Case XX hunting knife swung with a grunt by yours truly
Axe. (in a most impressive manner)
.30-06 at 150 yards.

They did manage to stop a 240 JSP .44 magnum handily though...

Knife Control is not about steak knives. The Right to Keep and Bear Knives is an individual, not a collective, right.

No one needs a knife THAT sharp. For the children.

If a knife will penatrate a vest then a fork would do the same, seem's we will be eating with our fingers soon!

What about a Spork?? Or a sharpened Spoon?? Those are deadly weapon too dont forget! Oh and those ever evil "Assualt Tooth Picks", those are really bad!

Ballistic vests give only limited protection against stabs. Yeah, a .223 round can penetrate one because most weren't made to protect against rifle rounds. If you want stab protection, get a stab vest.

I would just HATE to see what one could do with a grapefruit spoon!

Dead,

You don't have to worry about Spork's as the spoon portion limits the pentetration of the sport to 'less than lethal' depth. ;) Thus no legislation is needed to save the spork :rolleyes:

Kevlar is very prone to cutting. It actually cuts rather easily.

There is one design of vest out right now that uses interwoven layers of kevlar and stainless steel wire mesh to protect against stab wounds...

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

..Kevlar also wears rather quickly, hence the limited lifespan of the Police vests, I think its three years but I could be wrong.

But a plastic spork can't be detected by ANY metal detector!! How will we keep them out of schools? How will we protect the children from deadly assault sporks?

Ban sporks now!The sky is falling!

Mike Irwin, you said that Kevlar cuts easily. I have heard that spectra does, but kevlar is extremely resistant to cutting. In climbing, most high-strength slings/runners have a combination of spectra and kevlar. Spectra has a low melting point (I think about 300 degrees F) and is prone to cutting...but the tensile strength is very high. so to counter the tear/melt issue of spectra, kevlar threads are woven in. Voila...strength of sprectra with the cut-resistence of Kevlar. I've seen that quoted over and over in mags everywhere. I hope they are not wrong, as I have invested a great deal of money in this type of runner/sling and frequently put my life in the slings' "hands."

By the way, I have tried to cut some of this material that combines the two -- it was 5mm cord. With a pair of very sharp, burly scissors -- I was at it for 30 minutes.

pax,

We can't ban the spork just yet.

My studies show that the spork's half-life is 7.2 gazillion years. If someone- Gore were to speak out against the spork, we can show that person is against America.

Spork = Kentucky Fried Chicken.
KFC = Colonel
Colonel = Military
Military = Strong Defense
Strong Defense = Safe Country
Safe Country = America.

Anti Spork = Anti America
