Coolest/greatest Gun: with a twist

Wildey...

Adjustable gas system, rotating bolt, quick caliber changes, and a hefty dose of "Magnum" with cartridges ranging from 9mm Win Mag to .475 Wildey.

...In a handgun.

I don't have time to track down a better link right now, so here's the wikipedia entry: Wildey handgun

I'm actually somewhat surprised that 44 AMP didn't mention the Wildey. But, then again, he did nominate his namesake. ;)

bolo

I've always fancied the Mauser Bolo as a pistol. Radical ctg too, the 7.62 number. And what about the design and manufacture.....NO SCREWS!

And fnally, one of my honest to gosh heroes, Churchhill, blazed away with one for King and Country (may have been Queen and country now that I consider it).

I would think a front runner would be the Charlton rifle. A very clever and innovative way to convert bolt action Lee-Enfields to both semi and full automatic weapons.

I'm actually somewhat surprised that 44 AMP didn't mention the Wildey.

OK, ok, FrankenMauser...would you consider 2nd runner up?

In addition to what you mentioned, the Wildey is also a DA/SA gun, sporting a decocking safety and a heel clip mag release. Here's mine, .45WinMag, along with the (previously mentioned) Desert Eagle .44 Magnum.

Ironically enough, the 13mm Gyroject is actually considered a destructive device not because it explodes, but because it has a bore over .50 inches. So whether it's a launcher or not, it's got to be registered like one :D

Now I have read that there are ATF letters exempting them because of their unique status, but that would be an exception to the rule.

I don't know what they consider them today, but at one time, bazookas rocketlaunchers, mortars and even field artillery weren't regulated as destructive devices.

EACH ROUND of ammunition, was. (the explosive ones)

Here is a few of my Odd or unusual guns..got lots more.

Today they are destructive devices if they are rifled with a bore over .50 cal or if they fire destructive rounds. For instance, a 37mm Flare launcher is not a destructive device. However, if you shoot destructive rounds out of it (12 gauge shells can be adapted to fire in them) it must be registered as a destructive device. If you shoot grenades out of it, both the flare launcher and each grenade must be registered

I am with Stonewall

On the Lemat.

I think the pistol looks like a cross between a sewing machine and an ice cream maker. But I believe it qualifies as an oddity.

I'd love to have one but I must admit, I'd have an extra shot of Jack Daniels to build up the courage to look at it.

The VZ52 pistol is weird. It's the only roller locked short recoil operated pistol. Kind of like an MG42. You could count the number of roller locked firearms on one hand.

The Ithaca 37 and its ancestors are weird. Bottom ejection is both practical and super cool. It's disappointing that it never really caught on.

A few of the odder guns in my collection -

12mm Gyrojet w/6 rounds.

Liberator.

Cut down Liberator - allegedly one of two used at the Guide Lamp facility to demonstrate to workers and military liaisons how the pistol worked.

Savage Model 101 single shot .22.

COP Derringer.

American Arms "Fox Model Swing Out" side swing 10g shotgun.

I am enjoying the posts of other peoples odd guns. i carry a my COP as a CCW.
