convicted felon & buying a gun legally

If you need to "ease" into it, maybe start with something like:

"I'd like to learn how to hunt. Is it going to be a problem for me to have a rifle or shotgun now?"

It's a legitimate enough request, and the judge will likely lay it all out for you right there.

Instead of asking about firearms, just ask if you will be able to vote, hunt and fish. In most states, a felony conviction prevents you from getting a fishing license, and it prohibits you in all states from getting a firearms hunting license. In Mn, one of the easiest ways to bust felons with guns has been to look thru the license records. If you were a felon you would not be able to hold or possess a firearm in the act of hunting and the judge would know that,. If he says you can vote, hunt, and fish, then you can own and possess a firearm.

I will say this without judgement. If you have to turn any statements or affidavits in to the judge, PLEASE let someone proof read them. I only know you thru your posts, and I would say that I received your posts attached to some kind of legal statement it would poorly reflect on your outcome.

the simplest thing is to get the

'conviction' expunged. should not really be a problem when you reach legal age. Make sure that when this happens you no longer have to list it on any government applicationn, I'm pretty sure you won't, but be sure of this first.

Well went to the court today,it went very well. My juvenile record is sealed, I even ask the judge if I could legally posses a firearm. The judge replied that if I pass all the other requirements that I should have no problem possessing or carrying a firearm. The judge even came down off of his bench and congratulated me on my accomplishments and on my rehabilitation.

Congrats..

A lot of judges have terrific ability to discern truth, fiction and veiled innuendo. This is why you did the right thing and asked the question directly.;) Good job.

Do the crime, do the time, get a do over
that was one of the meny ideas that i have embrased since my conviction

Welcome to the fold, almost. Now, don't let us down by doing something stupid. I know you've heard this before, too many times...but you are at that age where sometimes total stupidity takes over and can get you in a world of trouble. Believe me, I know. Walk soft and go easy... there's a lot of living to do ahead and with the right mind set you can enjoy it all for many years.....

Regarding felons and firearms, according to the Firearms Owners protection Act of 1986, a felon may approach the court and ask that his civil rights be restored. I imagine it must come from the same judge and sentenced him.
I have a neighbor who was, in my opinion, railroaded into being a felon, but that's not the point of the issue. He did, after serving out his sentence, request the court for restoration of his civil rights, including possession of firearms and this was granted. He does NOT have to note his conviction on the yellow sheet.
Now he was convicted in a state court. It is my understanding that persons convicted in federal court never get their rights restored. Congress even offered the BATFE the money to handle these cases and they REFUSED to accept it, saying they were "too busy" to bother.
For those who say a convicted felon can never legally purchase or possess firearms, you are absolutely dead wrong. It's written otherwise in law. You can even look it up on the BATFE's website. FWIW, they absolutely hate that law. Makes my day every time I think of it. :D

I'm glad you are gonna get cleared and all...

but did you ever attend this school you broke into? From the looks of your posts it seems like you should have spent a little more time there during the day.;)
