Consolidation? Giving up on Semi's

Easy

You have all you need in the 4" 44. Sell the rest and if you want a .357 get you a 6 1/2" Blackhawk.

Pinetree, a 1911 design is 100 years old & it involves a lot of metal-to-metal friction. A 1911 is fun if you enjoy tinkering (to make it reliable). If you want total reliability in an auto, you will find it in Glock, Sigarms, HK USP. Especially Glock!

Have you looked at the Taurus 44 snubs? I fired one (steel) a few months ago and it was quite good....good accuracy and the recoil was not bad at all....

I could never get rid of my S&W Model 19 or 1911. My Ruger MkII I wouldn't mind trading for a Model 17 Smith. Everything else I could be persuaded to trade or sell.

I think a .22, a full size .38/.357 and a .45 are things needed by all people :D

If your looking at a 44 spc Id consider a 357 also. Energys are close with the 357 taking honors...unless your a bullet weight guy. Taurus makes a great little 44 spc snub which would be a solid CCW. Size is bigger than a J frame but not by much.
I wouldnt buy a 38 only gun...just me. I like the versatility of the 357/38 combo. You may want to keep your eyes peeled for a smaller 44 mag...you get the versatility back.
Shoot well
