Considering going "All Ruger"

Ruger certainly makes a great collection of firearms and I own two Ruger rifles and two Ruger handguns. All of them are certainly well made and I enjoy all of them. With that, I also like my S&Ws, Springfield and Savage Arms. I like variety.

There are certainly models of other makes that I like and would consider getting.

SW third generation auto pistols

Rem 870 shotgun

Springfield M1A

I am just really amazed at Ruger and their quality across the board.

Perhaps I will pursue the "standards", the classics. If they happen to be 80% Ruger so be it!

Franken,
I'll stick with the 870, thanks. :)
I'll also stick with my Colt ARs vs the Ruger "tactical" .223, but if pressed & the Colts were no longer available I could probably live with the Ruger rifle.

All of my serious guns [not including a sentimental S&W 645 and a very practical 870] are from Ruger. This is by design, not by accident. In my opinion, they offer the toughest, most reliable, mass-produced guns available..and are almost always more affordable than their serious competitors.

I don't know about going all Ruger, but I see quite a few either in the inventory or getting put on the que list.

Everybody should buy what they like ....and what fits their hands the best...but there isn't any one mfg out there that does everything well.

in revolvers....is Ruger really better than either Colt or S&W ...some would adamantly say no....and in other catergories as well / there would be a lot of no's ...

in 1911's ...is Ruger really better than companies like Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Les Baer - or Sig, Kimber, etc ...

in general semi-autos...centerfire guns ...is Ruger - really better than Springfield, Beretta, Sig, etc ....

in rimfire guns ...is ruger really better than Browning, Hammerli, etc...

in shotguns ...is ruger really better ..than Browning, Beretta ...or even Remington...

besides what does "better" mean ....less expensive, durable, resale value...

I didn't say eveything Ruger puts out is "better" than corresponding items made by other companies, just that I personally could meet all my needs, except for the Remington 870, with Ruger products if I had to, without much loss of sleep. :)

meeting needs versus meeting your needs with style and and better results????

Personally, S&W makes a better revolver, a lot of folks make better semi pistols, I can name 20-30 better brands of shotguns, including styles Ruger doesn't make, and there are several rifle makers that are better.......but it is subjective I suppose

I have had mixed experiences with Rugers. I learned to shoot in the 1970s on a Single Six which was accurate and very well made. I bought a Red Label in the 1990s and loved the way it pointed and opened. Unfortunately, it had some problems with the safety that necessitated sending it back to the factory for repair. Since getting it back, the rib has started coming loose, but I have not sent it back again for repairs yet.

One,
I would disagree that S&W makes a better revolver. The Ruger GP, for instance, is a more durable revolver than its competitor L-Frame Smith, over the long run.

But, the definition of "better" differs from person to person. :)

Ruger's already my first choice for some needs & CAN meet others well enough to get by if I had to.

I'm a BIG fan of Ruger - have 50 or more of their's here. That doesn't mean I don't have others too. Marlin takes care of the lever action desire and HK the semi-autos. Not so concerned about sticking to one brand but rather going with what fits me best. Just so happens Ruger has that covered in most areas.
As for the lack of a shotgun...wait for it. ;)

Been studying this pretty extensively. Don't think I can go all in on Ruger, but hold some of their models very highly and I think they have the best spread overall.

I think the following are best in class or near standards in terms of reliability and value.

Ruger 10/22 (can't be touched)
Ruger Mark II/III (can't be touched)
Ruger Mini-14/30 (580 models)
Ruger SR pistols (new, but game changing models that fit me great)

But there are gaps in their line up or models I prefer to the Rugers.

SW revolvers are just pure classics, so many great models
Remington 870 shotguns are the standard
Remington 700 bolt guns

As you say, with the exception of my 12ga pump, pretty much every gun I have could be replaced with a Ruger. But what would be the fun in that?

More durable, based on what? The act that their castings have to made thicker and heavier to achieve the same strengths as lighter forged guns?????

Beretta... from shotguns and handguns to sako rifles. They are well built, uber reliable and look great.
