Considering a Browning Hi-Power or Beretta 92FS.. .need opinions please

I have every pistol mentioned in this thread. Here's my take on each, with the requested pistols first:

Beretta 92fs. A BIG pistol. 15+1 capacity. DA/SA. Loooong DA trigger, but smooth. Crisp SA trigger. Accurate. Quality construction. Good value in what will ultimately be a classic design.

BHP. Great ergonomics. earlier models had better triggers, but, unlike many others, I like the trigger on mine. SA only. 17+1 capacity, (w/ KRD mags). A classic design that has stood the test of time. A natural shooter. It's my cold weather CCW.

CZ 75B. Old world quality. Solid. DA/SA. Much better DA trigger than the Beretta. Very accurate, (but I'm more accurate w/ the BHP). Can be carried cocked and locked like the BHP or 1911 or as DA. 15+1 capacity. Probably the best value for the money in 9mm.

Sig. In my case, a P220. A beautiful pistol. German quality. DA/SA. Excellent DA trigger. 7+1, (in .45acp), capacity. Decocker safety. Unfortunately, I can't shoot mine worth a $hit. I hate the "dot the eye" sights. It aint for sale, by the way.

1911. I have models in both 9mm, (Springfield Armory) and .45acp, (Colt). Another classic design. SA only. The best trigger of the bunch, hands down. 8+1 in .45acp, 9+1 in 9mm. Extremely accurate. My most accurate shooters. But, they're both more accurate than me, that's for sure. No collection should be without one, IMHO. I LOVE my 1911's!

A lot depends on what you want the pistol for. Personally, I prefer SA, cocked and locked. I also want to carry the most rounds possible in the most efficiently packaged pistol, possible. Weather also plays into my choices. My prefered carry pieces are SA. I do carry a Glock26 on occasion, but that wasn't one of your choices.

Try 'em all, if you can. Run several hundred rounds through each if you can. 50 rounds 'aint enough. With 100rd value paks of 9mm Winchester at $10.96+tax at Wally World, give each of you choices a spin. Let us know.

I would vote for the Beretta (the Italian made one).
It's a DA so it can be carried ready to go and it has a safety if you like that feature.
I just love mine.

If you like the feel of the HP, but with a smoother (DA/SA) trigger, check out the CZ-85 Combat. It is like the CZ-75 with adjustable sights, drop-free mag well, and no FP safety which makes the trigger pull much smoother. I think it's the best auto for the money in the world.

Beretta 92/96FS

The S/A trigger can be lightened down to 3.8lbs (or further...that's where mine rests) and in about ten minutes with a $3.00 part, you can take that looong D/A pull at 15lbs and replace it with a lighter 8lb pull...plus they make (for about $29.00) a trigger that removes a lot of the take-up on the initial pull...

You can't go wrong. I have 1911 friends who are jealous of the trigger...Plus you can carry w/o worrying about the safety if you want, or carry safety down...The pistol does whatever you want, however you want...

Can't beat it, and I ain't afraid to say so. :)

I own every handgun that has been mentioned except the CZ. I have 3 9mm, a BHP, a 92FS, and a Sig 225.

I think you will have to handle both of them and decide which one feels best in your hands. In the hands of someone more skilled than me, I would say they will shoot about equal.

Personally, the Sig feels best in my hands, the Beretta has the most fire power (I've never been able to get 17 rounds in my KRD mags), but I shoot the Hi-Power the best.

In fact, I just shot it last weekend for the first time in over a year, and I was clearly more accurate with it than any other auto I own.
