consealed pistol license, visiting an inmate, ?

You need to call the prison and find out. In kentucky, you can't have a gun even in your vehicle on prison property, even with a CDWP.

His brother is probably one of the many political prisoners our

government has created in this country in order to take as many 'contra' thinking folks as possible out of the election process.

I'd leave the pistol in the car/truck along with anything else they will probably take like a pocket knife or nail clippers and such... anything that will cause the metal detectors to go off... just going to be a whole lot easier.

Can't believe this thread is still alive. It's pretty clear cut. You don't bring the gun into a law enforcement/detention facility. It's written specifically on my license. I would assume such places; to include court rooms and some others; would be common restrictions throughout all 50 states.

So; "WHAT IS THE QUESTION"?

I can't believe the question was even asked.

I mean, seriously.

Although some of the replies have been worth the price of admission. :D

I worked for several years in a prison in Texas. It IS a felony to bring a weapon onto the prison grounds and all vehicles are subject to search. Because some of the female employees had CHL's and drove home at weird hours, our Warden allowed them to bring their pistols into the parking lot as long as they were "double locked" - locked in a box then locked in the trunk.

The Warden Is GOD in a prison and even though it was allowed with the Wardens permission in our unit, other units would not permit it. In short, in Texas the practice is "at the discretion of the Warden". Do NOT mess with the Warden. ASK!

Regarding the charge the Offender is being locked up for......you NEVER ask an inmate about his charges. Asking a family member about the charges is just as bad. It's a major no-no and there are plenty of good reasons for that. For example, an Offender with record of child abuse could be killed if it became known to the prison population. It's best to leave that subject strictly alone.

See, based on the advice presented in this thread you should be able to handle this situation. Sounds from the various comments like what you could consider doing is take the gun and hand carry it with you from the car to the gate, then when you get up there, tell the gaurds that you want to see the Warden. Sounds like that should give you the best chance to ask the Warden about the particular policies at that prison and avoid doing anything that doesn't fit their rules. While waiting for the Warden to come to the gate to talk, you can chat up the gaurds and ask them things like, "what kind of guns do you guys have?" I think this visit will go real smoothly for you.

Oh yeah URSAVUS, that would go over real well...LOL!!!:D

After you get disarmed at gunpoint, outcomes the goon squad (the ones with mean streaks who deadlift 600+ pounds and ENJOY inflicting pain on others) with Batons and the "education" begins!!!! We had a saying at the prison I worked at ... "engines run better after a tune up".

Just leave the pistol at home and go enjoy your visit. Don't even ask about guns on prison property. Just stand in line, blend in and be polite.

And I will add to that, "Your mama already has one son in jail. Don't make it two!"

Prisons

I live about 25 miles across the Mississippi from the Illinois Super Max, and toured it the weekend before they moved prisoners in. Big signs "No firearms permitted on the grounds including locked in vehicles".
