Confiscation of Registered Guns Begins in Illinois

Hey! Lay off with that Nazi stuff! You have no right to say that about police officers! These guys are just following orders!

:barf:

Two points:

1. It's obviously, easier and simpler for this "GUNSTAPPO" to target the law abiding, than it is for them to chase criminals, which is what the police are supposed to do, isn't it?

2. I believe that the following possiblity would be unfortunate, if it came to pass, but I do wonder as to how long it might be before Mr. Friendly State Trooper of other Police Persons were met with gun fire, or encontered same in the performance of the previously mentioned duties, they being the seizure of firearms, from people who essentially law abiding?

Just curious.

By the bye, re the "first generation citizen" mentioned, I wonder what might have happened if, when the trooper asked to be admitted to the man's home, permission was politely denied? If that's a stupid question, please bear with me.

Dunno the legal answer, but I can tell you if an officer of any sort politely asks if he may come in my house, the answer will be an equally polite, "No."

THEN we'll see if they think they have probable cause.

THEN we'll see if they think they have probable cause.

In the case of the cat above, they had information that a gun was previously registered at that address, the registration had not been renewed, and the resident's "FOID" had not been updated. Given the locale that this occurred in, I'd imagine he wouldn't have had too hard of a time getting a warrant.

This is the big problem with things like registration and "Firearms ID Cards." Because, as any "Law & Order" type will tell you, this dude did break the law. Whether the law itself was dumb or unconstitutional doesn't enter their minds when they ask "Hey, should we just get to pick and choose which laws we obey?" :(

By the time a state's legal atmosphere gets as anti-gun as the state of Chicago's, complaining about things like the CAGE unit is closing the door after the horse has fled. They're not doing anything New York City hasn't done decades ago.

Quartus,

I agree with the NO about coming in my home and the Nazi thing your right about the cop but not the people making the cop on the other hand it reminds me of when my uncle told me a story about when he lived in Cuba and Fidel banned VHS's and they went around collecting everybodies VHS's, this countries moving more towards a communist state on a yearly basis, especially when we let things like this stand  .

Yet another example of how registration inevitably leads to confiscation.

Thanks to a ruling by a liberal federal judge, the CAGE unit now has the name of every single person in the United States who, since 1992, lawfully purchased more than one handgun in the period of a week. The CAGE unit also has all the makes, models and serial numbers of those guns. In essence, the Chicago Police Department is now registering guns and gun owners nationwide.

The ISRA has also learned that the CAGE unit has compiled a list of families where more than one person in that family holds a FOID card. Acting on that information, the CAGE unit is now contacting gun shops where those families have shopped, and is illegally registering all guns purchased by those families.

Now, it appears that the CAGE unit is scrubbing Chicago's gun registration list against the list of FOID card holders. Indications are that folks who have let their registrations and FOIDs lapse will have their guns confiscated. We have to wonder how long it will be until state troopers show up at the doors to confiscate the guns of non-Chicago residents who have let their FOIDs expire.

and the Nazi thing your right about the cop but not the people making the cop

Any .45, that was sarcasm! "I was only following orders." is the excuse the Nazis gave at the Nuremberg trials. It didn't fly then, and it shouldn't fly now. Any cop who carries out such orders is as guilty as the politicians who passed the laws.

I just believe that as an LEO you take an oath to up hold the law, follow commands given buy your superiors, etc. and those communist law makers are the one's making those obsurd laws that SOME good LEO's have to up hold and I say some, because I live in Miami and see plenty of police and political corruption. Especially when it comes to guns and drugs. :D

i'm a police officer, but i don't agree with what's going on there at all. i think that i would have to change depts if they pulled something like that.

Isn't this really old news? Packing.Org has it dated over 3 years ago.
http://www.packing.org/news/article.jsp/3807/ Or is their date wrong and it is new news? The ISRA site that the article lists doesn't have this article, I've emailed their webmaster about it, no response yet.

Has this "CAGE" unit been confiscating guns ever since, or was this a one time thing? We know Daly is still in power and still wants to get rid of guns, but has he continued with this policy?

That is an old story.

If you don't renew your FOID in Illinois, I can't really feel sorry for you. It sucks but it is the law. It is like a driver's license, ya got to renew it to be legal. I don't agree with confiscating, but gee whiz, just renew your card.

As far as obeying only certain laws makes me think of wartime . We had a Major (USMA) that questioned a young 2nd LT. (OCS) one day . The Major asked "What is your function LT?" The LT replied "Sir , I am a rifle platoon leader." The Major asked "What is the function of a rifle platoon?" The LT stuttered a bit and said (you gotta love this) "Sir , the function of a rifle platoon is to function as a rifle platoon." He was clearly unprepared just as I was equally glad that he was NOT my rifle platoon leader . The Major then said "LT. , if you are ever asked that question again you might want to answer that the function of a rifle platoon is to engage and destroy the enemy." Well said IMHO . BUT we also have "unlawful orders" that can get you in trouble . Shooting unarmed prisoners even if so ordered ranks right around the top . Sooooooooooo the question begs , which laws can you disobey because they are not "right" ? If an officer is told to go out with a team and get all guns in a certain area what should he do ?

I was gonna pass on getting in on this discussion, . . . but changed my mind.

I'm very much afraid that some good LEO's and some good citizens are both going down the tubes if Big Brother decides to put the grab on firearms in this country.

I just hope those LEO's involved really think about what they are doing. We've had enough Randy Weaver's for one lifetime.

May God bless,
Dwight
