No American should be required to be licensed (by who?) to exercise a fundamental right.
That's correct.
I'm 44, but I got my first CCW license when I was 29. That's about the time Arizona became a "shall-issue" state. Before that, I carried openly without a permit, since none was needed (and still isn't in Az, and now a permit isn't needed for CCW, either).
The younger folks probably don't remember the time before the move towards concealed carry. Some probably don't remember the time before the brady law(s), background checks, and other nonsense that has done little or nothing to curb violence.
I still remember when the NRA was a defensive organization, rather than an offensive one. That was my one complaint about them; they'd only respond to proposed legislation to defend our rights, rather than initiating anything to protect them.
What the Klinton years did was wake gun owners up to the possibilities. As anti-gun laws were considered and/or passed, rebuttal laws and legislation were passed as well. As a result, we now have more rights and permissions concerning firearms ownership than we've had in many decades.
Folks would do well to remember the legal battles and maneuvering of the last 20 years concerning gun ownership in the upcoming elections.
