The PA-63 is made by FEG in Hungary, don't even suggest it for a carry gun or for anything else for that matter. I have had a little experience with 3 of them and all had very bad trigger pulls both in single and double action. They can be fixed to work better by someone that is handy around triggers but I would follow some of the other suggestions, I personally am a German Mak fan and carrier. FWIW
 
Your question is way to open ended. The replies you got about trying out different guns is the best advice given. We cant pick a gun for HIS taste, experience and other factors. If you want to go to a range that rents guns...should be one fairly close to you and get an idea of what he likes.....rev/s-auto-caliber-size-trigger style....etc. Then we can give you some really good choices and narrow the field accordingly...shoot well

I know what you mean. I guess, I just wanted some ideas of guns to suggest to him, so he could take a look at them and choose as he sees fit.
 
Depending on his budget, he can go with either

1. USP Compacts
2. Sig Compacts
3. Glock Compacts/sub-compacts.

These all carry a different manual of arms too, to suit his style.

He may want to look at the Beretta 92 series though not as compact.

All he has to do next is see which one feels best for him.
