Concealed Carry vs. Open Carry

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/71002412.html

Hey look. Guy who was CC'ing was robbed of his gun.

No telling what might have happened if he had OC'ed, but you never know, it might have deterred the crime, or he might have been able to draw and defend himself effectively... Or not. Can't say, but the point is that neither OC nor CC is a guarantee that something bad won't happen, nor that you will be able to react and stop a bad situation.

In fact, the main lesson from this and the prior OC robbery linked is that situational awareness is your first and your best line of defense.

As to the OC robbery story above, that is the only one you will find, and you really won't find any more detail than is in that news story. The only person who has spoken up on his behalf is the guy from the OC organization in the video. So details are basically non-existent. BTW, if you do find another story, double check it. The only other one I ever found it turned out the "victim" lied about the whole robbery of an OC'er.

For every guy who wants to be seen going down "kicking and screaming," there are dozens of us you don't see on the evening news doing the boring stuff that really works.

I was not trying to insinuate that you guys are just blow hards sitting on the computer.
I never intended to "slight" the members here at TFL. For those of you that are trying to make a difference either openly or behind the scenes, I applaud you.
If your trying to portray me as being some sort of glory hound, think again! If you choose to be invisible, that's fine. Somebody has to do the "boring stuff".

Have a great day,
Chet

People sure do get touchy about this stuff. There are people who would think many of the replies on this forum in general were posted by people who would be among the last they would want carrying a handgun - people who take things a little too seriously and personal (which of course they will for this post). If you're worried about keeping your carry rights concealed or not, getting hot under the collar about this stuff doesn't look good. Chill out.

On a different note, don't get too worried about anyone in Washington really making a serious attempt to take away any rights you have regarding guns - they have way more important issues to worry about these days. There may be a few politicos that still make some noise but they won't affect anything. Nobody of consequence thinks they can make enough polical hay pushing more gun control laws to make it worth their while. Except for a few states with anti-gun or more onerous gun control laws, for the most part YOU GUYS HAVE WON! Sit back, relax and enjoy being able to own, collect, carry (for the most part) and shoot your favorite toys.

Unless your state specifically bans open carry I do believe you are within your rights to open-carry a weapon, always have been. The most I think they could pin on you would be some b/s about inducing public panic. They would find some reason to stop you every time you passed by a police office I'm sure. Best just to get a conceal carry and not deal with the hassle IMHO.
