Concealed Carry Rotation?

I have two schools of thought that complement each other.

What I do, and why
and
What others do, and why

I stick with one single EDC and I don't waiver from that. A "pro" could argue that this gives me ultimate familiarity & extreme volume of practice with one single firearm. That's all well & good and I would expect my publicist or campaign manager would push this angle.

But alas, it is a side benefit but not my reason for doing it. I do it because IMO, the best carry platform is ugly, heartless, soulless tupperware. And I really have no love for tupperware outside of it's role as a terrific carry gun. And I don't lose sleep over dings, dents, scratches, sweat, lint, etc.

If I never carried, I would never own tupperware.

Oops, forgot "other people"

I think that other people carry a large array of different guns mostly for two basic reasons, or variations of them:

1) they are gun crazy guys who love guns, and part of that is actually carrying them or pointing to carry as a reason for justifying their purchase

2) they are ever more choosing comfort (or laziness?) and going smaller and smaller rather than a more forbidable size, style, caliber, WEIGHT of defensive carry gun

Being that they are they and not me and I definitely do not know what motivates their decisions, where I end up is:

I'm very happy that another good guy is choosing to go legally armed

I have long argued for a "one gun" concept for defensive carry, or at least a "one type" concept. Many people will argue that they are perfect and could never become confused in the heat of the moment and die because the gun they have is not the one they think they have. I disagree. Airplane crashes have been caused because highly trained pilots became confused over controls; the same thing can happen with guns.

It is not a matter of owning or firing other guns; it is a matter that training with a carry pistol will always be the same. You may have a Luger in your gun safe at home, but it is unlikely you will try to flip up the safety on your carry Glock. But if the carry guns are similar but different, you could be in trouble at the wrong time.

Really now?!
Why, yes. Really. :p

I firmly agree with Jim on this. If you want to carry different guns (I do, from time to time), I think the best move is to ensure that all of the carry guns operate the same way. You don't want to struggle to flip a safety up at a critical moment when it really needs to go down.

My wife once asked me why I carried two guns. My little granddaughter explained to her, as only an eight-year-old can:

"Nanny, the little gun is to make the bad guys run away!"
Wife: "Ok, I understand that, but why does he need a second gun?" Granddaughter: "The big gun is for those who won't run!"

My primary carry gun is a Dan Wesson CCO 1911 but I carry others, partly due to clothing restraints. In the past year, I have pocket carried a Ruger LCP (when I couldn't carry anything else), Sig P238, a Kahr CM9, and a SW Model 38. On rare occasion I have carried a Colt Agent (revolver) and a single action only Sig P220 in belt holsters.

Part of the reason I use different guns is due to clothing restraints but Sevens has pointed to a major part of the reason I carry so many -- being gun crazy and justifying the purchases. And I have to admit that the "one gun" or "one platform" argument has some validity. I partially adhere to this by using pistols that either have no safety at all or which have a frame mounted safety where down is fire and up is safe. If I accidentally sweep down for a non-existent safety, there's no harm. I quit carrying a wonderful carry gun, a SW Model 3913, because up was for fire.
