Concealed Carry Permit Question

Got fingerprinted here in GA by a Deputy (who was the same age as myself) who was a notorious hellion in middle school. Imagine that. We had a good conversation while I waiting in the middle of the county jailhouse waiting to get out. Of course, he later (accidently) mentions to my girlfriend's mom that he saw me at the jailhouse.. But now I think I earned extra kudos from her mom for taking steps "to protect her baby." :D

As far as I know, ALL states require this. One copy is kept on file locally and is checked, adn one goes to the FBI where they are again checked.

Not in Virginia. It is up to the locality. Richmond used to require prints, but not anymore.
On a related topic, the exact training required is up to the locality. My father got his permit after sitting through a free hunter safety course. I had to pay money for an 8-hour handgun class. John

In North Dakota, which issues permits to residents and non-residents, fingerprints were required. In South Dakota, which issues permits only to residents, fingerprints were NOT required.

Fingerprinting in Oklahoma, too! Two sets.

Not exactly an answer to the original question, but possibly an eye opener for some of you living in real states:

In Iowa you get fingerprinted as part of an application for a permit to acquire a pistol or revolver (yes, you must get a permit to buy a handgun).

For a CCW you have to give up your firstborn and still come up with "reasonable justification."

What a crock.

If you're talking about fingerprints for the CCW in PA, Montgomery county certainly does them. The interesting thing is my permit has no picture, I'd think that would be a good idea if they want to know who's permit it is.

I came up with reasonable justification to get my PA permit, I want the ability to shoot back! :) That, and about $20 gets you a permit for 5 years.

I know the DOJ basically reports back (at least in California) to the Sheriff that you are qualified to own a firearm. But what does the FBI check and report back??

Seems sort of redundant...

No finger prints necessary in Kentucky.

The fingerprint is on the actual permit in Georgia.

Well, I live in Luzerne County and was never fingerprinted neither was my wife when we went to get hers. They did do an instant background check on her but that was it. Wasn't aware the fingerprint requirements were different from county to county.
