Concealed carry in National Parks?

According to the YNP Ranger who was in my shop yesterday...

You absolutely, unequivocally and with out question CAN carry concealed in Yellowstone National Park as well as 90% of US National Parks, provided you have a proper and valid permit issued by the state or a state with reciprocity to the state which you are in when in the park (Montana or Wyoming). You CAN carry inside the buildings located in YNP because they are not "Federal Buildings" they are historical buildings held in trust by the National Park and most are privately owned but leased by the Xantarra Corporation.

ps I carry everywhere I go with the exception of "thru a metal detector".

The Federal buildings part in National Parks is really very easy. If there is a 18 USC 930 sign posted at the entrance to the building, I wouldn't carry past it. If there is no 18 USC 930 sign posted, then who cares?

§ 930. Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities
(a) Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.
(b) Whoever, with intent that a firearm or other dangerous weapon be used in the commission of a crime, knowingly possesses or causes to be present such firearm or dangerous weapon in a Federal facility, or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.

(h) Notice of the provisions of subsections (a) and (b) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal facility, and notice of subsection (e) shall be posted conspicuously at each public entrance to each Federal court facility, and no person shall be convicted of an offense under subsection (a) or (e) with respect to a Federal facility if such notice is not so posted at such facility, unless such person had actual notice of subsection (a) or (e), as the case may be.

I agree with PBP that courthouses among other sensitive places should be off limits to carry. Airplanes is another.

The key is to require the banning entity to have an effective mechanism in place to provide the protection needed to the citizens the entity has deprived of the right to protect themselves.

In courthouses and airports, you have metal detectors and armed security.

At sporting events, you have lots of security, some of it armed.

The problems arise with bans on carry and no substitute protection in place, like the general ban on carry in federal buildings, the former ban on carry in National parks, and the ban on firearms in Chicago, New York City, San Fran, DC etc.

Usually NO security between the stadium and the parking areas.
E-X-A-C-T-L-Y, which is why I hate this particular restriction.

Any place that denies me the right to carry should have insured lockers guaranteed available for my use.

Of all the places I go, there's nowhere, nowhere in my normal routine that takes me to a more unsafe area where crime is more prevalent.
