Conceal permit

Alaska Baby!!!!

Alaska - If you can legally own a handgun, you may carry it concealed without a permit or license and no municipality may infringe upon that right. I never want to leave :D:p:D:p
(If you want a permit for reciprocity, you may apply for one, Alaska is a "Will-Issue" State)

If you want a good place to check out different state CCW and general weapon laws check here...

If it's like Florida, it's a total joke. A very short course, grade your own test, fire one round from a gun. Pay your fee, complete the state application and submit your fingerprints. A permit is all yours unless you have a criminal or mental case profile. It's way too lax. To preserve our state right to a CCP in the future, the process should be more thorough and difficult to complete.

"With the large number of folks deciding to get theirs after the last election"

this amazes me. people are afraid of losing their guns to the govt. so they go out and give he govt. all their personal information so they can get a ccw? now the govt. has plenty of ways to track us already so ccw information would be just another piece for them to use but come on folks which is it? does the govt. trust you enough to issue you a ccw and do you trust them enough to give them another road map to your house and your treasures? or is this just another piece of info the govt. will use against you in a gun grab? now you just can't have it both ways, it's either, or. everyone seems to want or have a ccw and everyone seems to have the same distrust of the govt. i've been hearing that same old song and dance since i was a kid and there are more people owning more guns than ever. i'd like a ccw myself but i'm not convinced one way or the other if its a good or bad move. convience me.

what amazes me it this, half of the fools getting weapons permits voted for the buttheads and NOW are scared that they will lose the 2nd ad rights,GO FIGURE!!

TN requires 4hrs class-tells about carry laws, doos and donts, where you can and cant carry, no big deal, just pay attentionto the inster, then 4hrs at the range actual shooting. I would sugest suooting 22cal as cheaper than center fire you have to shoot 100 rounds.

I'm not sure about the first part, but maybe they just have to keep your attention for 8 hours. Either way it was longer than a work day

We only had to shoot 50 rounds for our qualification. I would have felt better about all the $$$ if we had gotten to shoot more and for longer.

I disagree with using the .22 to qualify, though. While TN doesn't specify that you can only carry what you qualify with, I would rather qualify with at least the caliber I intend to use or larger. The range we took our class in offers "update" additions in case you want to get a certificate of firing qualification when you decide to carry a different caliber. You can show up on class day late for just the shooting qualification to get a certificate showing you passed with that weapon for something like $20.

While it is not required by law, and is really just an attempt by the range to generate additional revenue, it might be helpful in court if needed. I don't intend to go if I decide to carry a .45 instead of 9mm, though.

[QUOTE what surprises me is half the fools getting weapons permits voted for the buttheads and NOW are scared they will lose the 2nd ad. rights,GO FIGURE!! QUOTE] Should that statement be taken to mean that you think all CCW permit holders are fools? Harleyrider, best of luck on your test! If you pay attention and learn about the laws, you`ll do just fine. Also ask questions. Maybe a good one to start with would be 'what is the penalty when getting caught CCW`ing without a permit'? We may not agree with the permit laws but...... Sometimes 'foolishness' is like 'beauty', its in the eye`s of the beholder.

The class im taking i think is 8 hrs not sure but all you need is 50 rounds. im doing it with my 9mm instead of my 25 cal. i believe that you are shooting 15 yard but not sure. Im in no hurry i want to take my time and learn all the do and donts.

allenomics, you are kidding, right. what guidelines would you like to see be put on us lowly peons that wish to rely on ourselves for protection rather then the police.

harleyrider, the shooting part is three different distances: 3, 7, and 25 yards if memory serves me. Ours was 26 rounds at 3 yards and 24 rounds total at the other distances.

My advice, sun screen, use sun screen.

Most CCW courses have two parts, classroom and range. The classroom should be the most important part. It should cover the do's and don'ts as well as when it is a good idea and when it is not a good idea to pull a gun on someone else. In real life situations, it's the grey areas that are tricky.

Pulling a gun on someone should be the second to last thing. The last is pulling the trigger. If it gets that far, you get to talk to the police and hire an attorney, because the ordeal just began.

All that said, sun screen, trust me on the sun screen.

Not sure what Ginger meant by "no required class" in Idaho......

From the Ada County Website.

Concealed Weapon Course

Please call 577-3112 for information on our next class.

Proof of firearms training is required in order to get a concealed weapon license. The Concealed Weapon Course offered by the Sheriff's Office meets this training requirement. There is no cost for the class. No weapons are needed and there is no handling of weapons during the class. Call 577-3112 if you are interested in attending.

OBTAINING A CONCEALED WEAPON LICENSE
Concealed Weapon applications are obtained in our Driver’s License Unit area.
You need to bring in proof of firearms training when you submit the application. This could be a military I.D., certificate from a hunters' education or other firearms training class such as the one given by the Sheriff's Office.
You must be fingerprinted when you apply.
Processing of the application and background check takes about 90 days.

Fees
For the fingerprinting/background check, $34 to be paid when application is submitted.
For the license, $22 to be paid when license is issued.

No more restrictions on CCW please.

Washington State - you just pay for the permit. Go in, fill out the forms, submit for fingerprints and pay. No mandatory class.

We do not need more laws for law abiding citizens!

Get to know your state laws that effect YOU.
As you can see there are different requirements in every state. You can do a search as there are plenty of state specific sites on the internet. If you decide to carry it's on you to learn the laws and regulations surrounding your specific state requirements.

Learn as much as you can and decide what is good for you.

Im going on the 21st to take the course to get my ccw anyone have anyadvice?

Yup.

You're in TN, I'm in KY, so I won't get too specific, but here goes:

- Clean your gun the night before. Our instructor disassembled everyone's gun to make sure they were in safe operating condition.
- Check, and double check the night before to make sure you have everything required for the class. Don't be "that guy" who forgot his cleaning kit, or a No. 2 pencil, or something.
- Prepare for a very long, boring video. In KY, we watched a 2.5 hour video consisting of state attorneys literally reading the laws. Let's just say no Oscars for Best Documentary are forthcoming.
- If you haven't (there are a lot of new gun owners who take CCW classes), familiarize yourself with Jeff Cooper's four rules of safe firearms handling. Observe them obsessively, or kiss your chances of getting certified goodbye.
- BE SAFE. This includes unloading your gun and magazines before arriving at the class. My class even required that we have our slides locked back with no magazine inserted until stepping to the firing line at the range.
- In KY, you have to put 11 of 20 shots into a silhouette target at 7 yards to qualify. I've fired about 100 rounds in my life, and hit all 20 with no problem, and 17 of them were in a space the size of a softball. Just do what the instructor says and you'll be fine.

Oh, and don't disassemble your gun during the long boring video and fail at putting it back together, causing everybody to stare for 10 minutes while you figure it out. That was the guy next to me. Don't be "that guy". Good advice for life in general, really.

.
allenomics, you are kidding, right. what guidelines would you like to see be put on us lowly peons that wish to rely on ourselves for protection rather then the police.

Grade your own test? Not good. Class in name only? A joke. Fire one round? I'm a peon too, but gimme a break.

Boy, I am lucky. The state said my 24 years in the military would count for the 8 hour class and my active top secret clearance should allow me to pass the background requirements, but I still had to pay the $117.00. Wow, I was sure lucky

I went to the class an sat and the instructures were very relaxed. they didnt check the weapons or anything like that we sat in class for 4 hrs they talked about gun safety and things like that we watched a couple videos then went to the range shot then went back to the class room and took the written test.there were a couple people that should not have passed in my book but they passed them anyway. like one lady shot an 85 on the range. distances were 3 yards to 15 yards. If u have bullets at 3 yards that wander you have an issue and need to learn how to shoot lol. Im going today to turn in my cert and get fingerprinted then all i have to do is wait to get my permit in the mail. for the state of tn right now there is like a 4 month back log so they tell me at the class. All in all it was a good class no one got hurt.
