Compare Glock 19 and Walther P-99

Question about finish...

Since the Walther's slide is listed as a "Tennifer finish", does that indeed make them virtually rust-proof like the Glock?

All Walter frames are made in Germany from what I hear. Not all slide assemblies are. Look for proof marks on the bbl and slide, otherwise you are talking S&W.

Walther has better grip with different inserts to get a closest possible fit for your hand. Only G-26/27/33 and G-29/30/36 have correct grip shape for average hand.

Walther has better SA trigger out of the box. DA is horrible, but you can carry it on SA with long takeup (opinions vary on safety of this mode).

Walther has shiaty mag release.

Don't know how accurate Walther is since I only shot one at a steel plate. I know first hand what amazing things G-26/27/30 can do.

Price seems to be close these days (TX).

Hi cap mag prices seem to be close as Walther's came down and Glock's are going up. Walther has better mags.

Both have great finish.

Reliability of Glocks is known. Walther's had early problems that seem to have been resolved.

We'll see about long term durability of Walthers, we know about Glocks.

Walter is more complicated gun with no parts available if you want to fix your own.

Walther is longer, taller, fatter.

Take a pick.

Statements like "better grip", or "better trigger" are down to personal taste. I personaly preffer the G19 all the way, since I am used to Glock grip, trigger and feel in general and find the P99 uncomfortable (too thin grip - the width I mean), altrough I have no doubt that some feel it just opposite. I always appreciated the compact design of Glock, no levers, external safeties and allways the same trigger pull.

I love the G19. I tried out a P99 at the gunshop the other day.

The P99 felt pretty comfortable, but then again, I've never ever picked up a non-ultracompact pistol that didn't feel comfortable. I thought it felt pretty good. Then I tried the trigger. I don't know if it was just the one I tried, but the double action was really unsmooth and "snappy". Felt like the trigger internals were made of cheap, flexible plastic. Single action was a little better, but had a long, strange take-up which let out an audible "click" in the middle of the stroke. I didn't like either trigger pull, but really didn't like the click, since someone might hear it if I ever needed to get a shot off silently (until the round goes off). Probably a rare event, but you never know.

No experience shooting a P99.

I was surprised. I have heard many individuals say how great the P99 trigger is. Oh well.

I think the G19 is great. High capactity, same trigger every time, reliable, and simply operation.

You have your trigger modes confused.
The Walther has THREE different trigger modes.
1) DA, the long firm pull from start to finish.
2) Anti-stress/Click, Very light initial pull to "click", then SA pull to fire.
3) SA, very light short pull to fire.
You should have someone who is familiar with the Walther show you each trigger pull, and how to transition between trigger modes, and what each mode is best utilized for. Most gunstore employees are ignorant of the Walther P99's unique trigger.

I have owned both the G19 and a P99QA. I have to say that both were very reliable and I would trust my life to both. However, the P99QA just fit me better. The P99 was also more accurate. The P99QA trigger is much better than the original P99 trigger. All in all, the P99QA was better for me and I ditched the G19. I guess that is the key, try to shoot both and find your best match.

Most are ignorant about the P99 period.

I had one young AH just the other week try to tell me about the P99 vs. S&W and then had no idea what I meant about trigger reset. End of conversation. :(
This kid should be sellin' bananas on the street corner, not firearms!

This is the same place that has a P99 in the case for $749.00, black on black 9mmx19 with two 10 round mags. marked "Walther USA LLC, Springfield, MA".

When I asked if they thought they thought they would sell it at that price, they had no frigin' idea that Walther had dropped the price on the P99's. Then this kid tries to argue that I was wrong and that the lower price was on the S&W model but he didn't know the model number.
