Penney's shotguns (at least some) were marketed under the Foremost label. My 2nd shotgun was a 12Ga Foremost pump that was really a Savage (Model 30 I think). I had that gun for about 30 years before I finally sold it off.

I knew most of those, but the Abercrombie....that's pretty neat. that would make a great collector piece

Before A&F became a destination for size 2 college girls, it was the primo sporting goods retailer. The hunting clothing they sold was absolutely top notch. No self-respecting great white safari hunter bound for Africa would think about going to the dark continent without stopping by A&F to get the latest safari clothes.

Wards had their name on a neat .22 pump action rifle back in the 1950's or so. It was called a Wards Western Field Model 33

Nice gun little gun I must say.

I remember Boscov's selling revolvers in Central Pennsylvania as late as the early 1990s, but I don't believe they were Boscov's branded.

You may be right about Boscovs. There was a local store in my area of Pa called Hess's. It was pretty big at one time. I remember they sold "Girly" little automatics with white and pink grips, but I don't remember if they were marked for them either. Considering the time, what gun company would put their name on that? What about Herter's? They put their name on a lot of stuff.

AC Spark plug--M-2
Whirlpool--4 Deuce mortar
Western Auto-I have a .410
Montgomery Ward-Lever guns

Iver Johnson Bicycle Works ---He drifted into guns full time, I had a breaktop .32
There you have it. Nothing has changed. You still don't know who is making your guns, only now they don't mark them as "Farmed out".

Then you would also have to include a bazillion hardware stores who sold guns with their names on them

Rebranded hardware and department stores don't really count. If youv've spent much time walking through pawn shops or around firearms in general those names won't surprise you much. OSme of those companies sold firearms until relatively recently.

Abercrombie and Fitch is an exception as so few know the companies history and the firearms are far from common. I am sure there are other store brands that are equally surprising.

Ive seen those Abercrombie shotguns online go for what a new top of the line Browning retails for, ill pass thanks. However they are nice.

Whamo, the toy company, made 22 pistols for a time.

Not just clothes. A&F could outfit your entire expedition for everything from perch fishing in the park pond, to looking for the source of the Nile.
